The Second Sunday after Epiphany Morning
Prayer Sunday
1st Lesson Zechariah 8:1-8, 20-23
1 Again the word of the Lord of hosts came to me, saying, 2 Thus
saith the Lord of hosts; I was jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and
I was jealous for her with great fury. 3 Thus saith the Lord; I am
returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and
Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the Lord
of hosts the holy mountain. 4 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; There shall
yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, and every
man with his staff in his hand for very age. 5 And the streets of the
city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof. 6
Thus saith the Lord of hosts; If it be marvellous in the eyes of the
remnant of this people in these days, should it also be marvellous in
mine eyes? saith the Lord of hosts. 7 Thus saith the Lord of hosts;
Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from the west
country; 8 And I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of
Jerusalem: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God, in
truth and in righteousness.
20 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; It shall yet come to pass, that
there shall come people, and the inhabitants of many cities: 21 And the
inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, Let us go speedily
to pray before the Lord, and to seek the Lord of hosts: I will go also.
22 Yea, many people and strong nations shall come to seek the Lord of
hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the Lord. 23 Thus saith the Lord
of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take
hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the
skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have
heard that God is with you.

2nd Lesson 1 Corinthians 12:12-31a
12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members
of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. 13 For by
one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or
Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink
into one Spirit. 14 For the body is not one member, but many. 15 If the
foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it
therefore not of the body? 16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not
the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? 17 If
the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were
hearing, where were the smelling? 18 But now hath God set the members
every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. 19 And if they
were all one member, where were the body? 20 But now are they many
members, yet but one body. 21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I
have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of
you. 22 Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more
feeble, are necessary: 23 And those members of the body, which we think
to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and
our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness. 24 For our comely
parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having
given more abundant honour to that part which lacked: 25 That there
should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the
same care one for another. 26 And whether one member suffer, all the
members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members
rejoice with it. 27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in
particular. 28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles,
secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts
of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. 29 Are all
apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of
miracles? 30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues?
do all interpret? 31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I
unto you a more excellent way.

1st Lesson Exodus 34:29
29 And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with
the two tables of testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the
mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he
talked with him. 30 And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw
Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come
nigh him. 31 And Moses called unto them; and Aaron and all the rulers of
the congregation returned unto him: and Moses talked with them. 32 And
afterward all the children of Israel came nigh: and he gave them in
commandment all that the Lord had spoken with him in mount Sinai. 33 And
till Moses had done speaking with them, he put a veil on his face. 34
But when Moses went in before the Lord to speak with him, he took the
veil off, until he came out. And he came out, and spake unto the
children of Israel that which he was commanded. 35 And the children of
Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses' face shone: and
Moses put the veil upon his face again, until he went in to speak with
him.

2nd Lesson Mark 9:2-13
2 And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and
John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and
he was transfigured before them. 3 And his raiment became shining,
exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. 4 And
there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with
Jesus. 5 And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us
to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for
Moses, and one for Elias. 6 For he wist not what to say; for they were
sore afraid. 7 And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice
came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. 8 And
suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more,
save Jesus only with themselves. 9 And as they came down from the
mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they
had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead. 10 And they kept
that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the
rising from the dead should mean. 11 And they asked him, saying, Why say
the scribes that Elias must first come? 12 And he answered and told
them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is
written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set
at nought. 13 But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they
have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.

1st Lesson Isaiah 45:1-15
1 Thus saith the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I
have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of
kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not
be shut; 2 I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight:
I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of
iron: 3 And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden
riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord, which
call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel. 4 For Jacob my servant's
sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have
surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me. 5 I am the Lord, and there
is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast
not known me: 6 That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from
the west, that there is none beside me. I am the Lord, and there is none
else. 7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create
evil: I the Lord do all these things. 8 Drop down, ye heavens, from
above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open,
and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up
together; I the Lord have created it. 9 Woe unto him that striveth with
his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth.
Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy
work, He hath no hands? 10 Woe unto him that saith unto his father, What
begettest thou? or to the woman, What hast thou brought forth? 11 Thus
saith the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things
to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command
ye me. 12 I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my
hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I
commanded. 13 I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will direct
all his ways: he shall build my city, and he shall let go my captives,
not for price nor reward, saith the Lord of hosts. 14 Thus saith the
Lord, The labour of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia and of the
Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over unto thee, and they shall be
thine: they shall come after thee; in chains they shall come over, and
they shall fall down unto thee, they shall make supplication unto thee,
saying, Surely God is in thee; and there is none else, there is no God.
15 Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the
Saviour.

2nd Lesson Romans 9:14-26
14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God
forbid. 15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have
mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. 16 So
then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God
that sheweth mercy. 17 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for
this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in
thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth. 18
Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he
hardeneth. 19 Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault?
For who hath resisted his will? 20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that
repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it,
Why hast thou made me thus? 21 Hath not the potter power over the clay,
of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto
dishonour? 22 What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his
power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted
to destruction: 23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory
on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory, 24 Even
us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?
25 As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not
my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved. 26 And it shall come
to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my
people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.

11 O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold,
I will lay thy stones with fair colours, and lay thy foundations with
sapphires. 12 And I will make thy windows of agates, and thy gates of
carbuncles, and all thy borders of pleasant stones. 13 And all thy
children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of
thy children. 14 In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt
be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it
shall not come near thee. 15 Behold, they shall surely gather together,
but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall
for thy sake. 16 Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals
in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I
have created the waster to destroy. 17 No weapon that is formed against
thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in
judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the
Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.

2nd Lesson John 1:35
35 Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples; 36
And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!
37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. 38
Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What
seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted,
Master,) where dwellest thou? 39 He saith unto them, Come and see. They
came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was
about the tenth hour. 40 One of the two which heard John speak, and
followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. 41 He first findeth his
own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which
is, being interpreted, the Christ. 42 And he brought him to Jesus. And
when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou
shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone. 43 The day
following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and
saith unto him, Follow me. 44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of
Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We
have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write,
Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. 46 And Nathanael said unto him,
Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him,
Come and see. 47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him,
Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! 48 Nathanael saith unto
him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before
that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.
49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of
God; thou art the King of Israel. 50 Jesus answered and said unto him,
Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou?
thou shalt see greater things than these. 51 And he saith unto him,
Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and
the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

1st Lesson Proverbs 4:20
20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. 21
Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine
heart. 22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all
their flesh. 23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the
issues of life. 24 Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips
put far from thee. 25 Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine
eyelids look straight before thee. 26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and
let all thy ways be established. 27 Turn not to the right hand nor to
the left: remove thy foot from evil.

2nd Lesson Ephesians 4:17
17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth
walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, 18 Having
the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through
the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto
lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. 20 But ye have
not so learned Christ; 21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been
taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 That ye put off concerning
the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the
deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And
that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness
and true holiness. 25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man
truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. 26 Be ye
angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: 27 Neither
give place to the devil. 28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather
let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he
may have to give to him that needeth. 29 Let no corrupt communication
proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of
edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. 30 And grieve not
the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of
redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour,
and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32 And be ye
kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God
for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

1st Lesson Ezekiel 12:21
21 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, 22 Son of man, what
is that proverb that ye have in the land of Israel, saying, The days are
prolonged, and every vision faileth? 23 Tell them therefore, Thus saith
the Lord God; I will make this proverb to cease, and they shall no more
use it as a proverb in Israel; but say unto them, The days are at hand,
and the effect of every vision. 24 For there shall be no more any vain
vision nor flattering divination within the house of Israel. 25 For I am
the Lord: I will speak, and the word that I shall speak shall come to
pass; it shall be no more prolonged: for in your days, O rebellious
house, will I say the word, and will perform it, saith the Lord God. 26
Again the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 27 Son of man, behold,
they of the house of Israel say, The vision that he seeth is for many
days to come, and he prophesieth of the times that are far off. 28

words be prolonged any more, but the word which I have spoken shall be
done, saith the Lord God.

2nd Lesson John 3:14-21
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must
the Son of man be lifted up: 15 That whosoever believeth in him should
not perish, but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that
he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should
not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into
the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be
saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that
believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the
name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation,
that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than
light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil
hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be
reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds
may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

1st Lesson Proverbs 6:12-19
12 A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth. 13
He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with
his fingers; 14 Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief
continually; he soweth discord. 15 Therefore shall his calamity come
suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy. 16 These six
things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A
proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 An
heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running
to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth
discord among brethren.

1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; 2 And walk in
love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an
offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. 3 But
fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once
named among you, as becometh saints; 4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish
talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of
thanks. 5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor
covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of
Christ and of God. 6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because
of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of
disobedience. 7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them. 8 For ye were
sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children
of light: 9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and
righteousness and truth;) 10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but
rather reprove them. 12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things
which are done of them in secret. 13 But all things that are reproved
are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is
light. 14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from
the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

them that prophesy out of their own hearts, Hear ye the word of the
Lord; 3 Thus saith the Lord God; Woe unto the foolish prophets, that
follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing! 4 O Israel, thy prophets
are like the foxes in the deserts. 5 Ye have not gone up into the gaps,
neither made up the hedge for the house of Israel to stand in the battle
in the day of the Lord. 6 They have seen vanity and lying divination,
saying, The Lord saith: and the Lord hath not sent them: and they have
made others to hope that they would confirm the word. 7 Have ye not seen
a vain vision, and have ye not spoken a lying divination, whereas ye
say, The Lord saith it; albeit I have not spoken? 8 Therefore thus saith
the Lord God; Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore,
behold, I am against you, saith the Lord God. 9 And mine hand shall be
upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not

of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord God.

2nd Lesson John 3:22
22 After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of
Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized. 23 And John also
was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water
there: and they came, and were baptized. 24 For John was not yet cast
into prison. 25 Then there arose a question between some of John's
disciples and the Jews about purifying. 26 And they came unto John, and
said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou
barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him. 27
John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given
him from heaven. 28 Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not
the Christ, but that I am sent before him. 29 He that hath the bride is
the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and
heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this
my joy therefore is fulfilled. 30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
31 He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is
earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above
all. 32 And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man
receiveth his testimony. 33 He that hath received his testimony hath set
to his seal that God is true. 34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the
words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him. 35 The
Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. 36 He
that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth
not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

1 Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice? 2 She
standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the
paths. 3 She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the
coming in at the doors. 4 Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to
the sons of man. 5 O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye
of an understanding heart. 6 Hear; for I will speak of excellent things;
and the opening of my lips shall be right things. 7 For my mouth shall
speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips. 8 All the
words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or
perverse in them. 9 They are all plain to him that understandeth, and
right to them that find knowledge. 10 Receive my instruction, and not
silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold. 11 For wisdom is better

2nd Lesson Ephesians 5:15
15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, 16
Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17 Wherefore be ye not
unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. 18 And be not
drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; 19
Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing
and making melody in your heart to the Lord; 20 Giving thanks always for
all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. 22 Wives,
submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23 For the
husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the
church: and he is the saviour of the body. 24 Therefore as the church is
subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every
thing. 25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the
church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse
it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to
himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such
thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 28 So ought men
to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth
himself. 29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and
cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: 30 For we are members of his
body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31 For this cause shall a man
leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they
two shall be one flesh. 32 This is a great mystery: but I speak
concerning Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless let every one of you
in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that
she reverence her husband.

1 Then came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and sat before
me. 2 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, 3 Son of man, these
men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock
of their iniquity before their face: should I be inquired of at all by
them? 4 Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the
Lord God; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in
his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his
face, and cometh to the prophet; I the Lord will answer him that cometh
according to the multitude of his idols; 5 That I may take the house of
Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me
through their idols. 6 Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus
saith the Lord God; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and
turn away your faces from all your abominations. 7 For every one of the
house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which
separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and
putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh
to a prophet to inquire of him concerning me; I the Lord will answer him
by myself: 8 And I will set my face against that man, and will make him
a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my
people; and ye shall know that I am the Lord. 9 And if the prophet be
deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the Lord have deceived that
prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him
from the midst of my people Israel. 10 And they shall bear the
punishment of their iniquity: the punishment of the prophet shall be
even as the punishment of him that seeketh unto him; 11 That the house
of Israel may go no more astray from me, neither be polluted any more
with all their transgressions; but that they may be my people, and I may
be their God, saith the Lord God.

to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of
ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. 6 Now Jacob's well was there.
Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well:
and it was about the sixth hour. 7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to
draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. 8 (For his disciples
were gone away unto the city to buy meat.) 9 Then saith the woman of
Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me,
which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the
Samaritans. 10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the
gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou
wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and
the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? 12 Art
thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank
thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? 13 Jesus answered and
said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 14
But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never
thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of
water springing up into everlasting life.

1st Lesson Proverbs 8:12-20
12 I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty
inventions. 13 The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and
arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. 14
Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.
15 By me kings reign, and princes decree justice. 16 By me princes rule,
and nobles, even all the judges of the earth. 17 I love them that love
me; and those that seek me early shall find me. 18 Riches and honour are
with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness. 19 My fruit is better
than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver. 20 I
lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of
judgment:

2nd Lesson Ephesians 6
1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2
Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with
promise;) 3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on
the earth. 4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but
bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. 5 Servants, be
obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear
and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; 6 Not with
eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the
will of God from the heart; 7 With good will doing service, as to the
Lord, and not to men: 8 Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man
doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or
free. 9 And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing
threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is
there respect of persons with him. 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in
the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of
God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For
we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities,
against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world,
against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you
the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil
day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your
loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of
righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel
of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall
be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the
helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of
God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit,
and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all
saints; 19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may
open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 For
which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I
ought to speak. 21 But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do,
Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall
make known to you all things: 22 Whom I have sent unto you for the same
purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your
hearts. 23 Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the
Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Grace be with all them that love
our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.

1st Lesson Ezekiel 14:12-20
12 The word of the Lord came again to me, saying, 13 Son of man, when
the land sinneth against me by trespassing grievously, then will I
stretch out mine hand upon it, and will break the staff of the bread
thereof, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast
from it: 14 Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it,
they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith
the Lord God. 15 If I cause noisome beasts to pass through the land, and
they spoil it, so that it be desolate, that no man may pass through
because of the beasts: 16 Though these three men were in it, as I live,
saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters; they
only shall be delivered, but the land shall be desolate. 17 Or if I
bring a sword upon that land, and say, Sword, go through the land; so
that I cut off man and beast from it: 18 Though these three men were in
it, as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither sons nor
daughters, but they only shall be delivered themselves. 19 Or if I send
a pestilence into that land, and pour out my fury upon it in blood, to
cut off from it man and beast: 20 Though Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in
it, as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither son nor
daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their
righteousness.

15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst
not, neither come hither to draw. 16 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy
husband, and come hither. 17 The woman answered and said, I have no
husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband: 18
For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy
husband: in that saidst thou truly. 19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I
perceive that thou art a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshipped in this
mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to
worship. 21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh,
when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship
the Father. 22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for
salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the
true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for
the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they
that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. 25 The woman
saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when
he is come, he will tell us all things. 26 Jesus saith unto her, I that
speak unto thee am he.

1st Lesson Proverbs 8:22-35
22 The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his
works of old. 23 I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or
ever the earth was. 24 When there were no depths, I was brought forth;
when there were no fountains abounding with water. 25 Before the
mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth: 26 While
as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part
of the dust of the world. 27 When he prepared the heavens, I was there:
when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: 28 When he established
the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: 29
When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his
commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth: 30 Then I
was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight,
rejoicing always before him; 31 Rejoicing in the habitable part of his
earth; and my delights were with the sons of men. 32 Now therefore
hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.
33 Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. 34 Blessed is the
man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of
my doors. 35 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour
of the Lord.

2nd Lesson Philippians 1:1-11
1 Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints
in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons: 2
Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord
Jesus Christ. 3 I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, 4 Always
in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy, 5 For your
fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now; 6 Being confident
of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will
perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: 7 Even as it is meet for me to
think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both
in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all
are partakers of my grace. 8 For God is my record, how greatly I long
after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ. 9 And this I pray, that
your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;
10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere
and without offence till the day of Christ; 11 Being filled with the
fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and
praise of God.

1st Lesson Ezekiel 18:1-4, 19-23
1 The word of the Lord came unto me again, saying, 2 What mean ye,
that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The
fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on
edge? 3 As I live, saith the Lord God, ye shall not have occasion any
more to use this proverb in Israel. 4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the
soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that
sinneth, it shall die.
19 Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father?
When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all
my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live. 20 The soul that
sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the
father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the
righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of
the wicked shall be upon him. 21 But if the wicked will turn from all
his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that
which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die. 22
All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be
mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall
live. 23 Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith
the Lord God: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?

2nd Lesson John 4: 27-42
And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with
the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with
her? 28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the
city, and saith to the men, 29 Come, see a man, which told me all things
that ever I did: is not this the Christ? 30 Then they went out of the
city, and came unto him. 31 In the mean while his disciples prayed him,
saying, Master, eat. 32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that
ye know not of. 33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any
man brought him ought to eat? 34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do
the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. 35 Say not ye,
There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto
you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white
already to harvest. 36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and
gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that
reapeth may rejoice together. 37 And herein is that saying true, One
soweth, and another reapeth. 38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye
bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their
labours. 39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for
the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I
did. 40 So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him
that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days. 41 And many
more believed because of his own word; 42 And said unto the woman, Now
we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves,
and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

1st Lesson Proverbs 9:1-6, 13-18
1 Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:
2 She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also
furnished her table. 3 She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon
the highest places of the city, 4 Whoso is simple, let him turn in
hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, 5 Come,
eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled. 6 Forsake
the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.
13 A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.
14 For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high
places of the city, 15 To call passengers who go right on their ways: 16
Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth
understanding, she saith to him, 17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread
eaten in secret is pleasant. 18 But he knoweth not that the dead are
there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.

2nd Lesson Philippians 1:12-26
12 But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which
happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the
gospel; 13 So that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace,
and in all other places; 14 And many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing
confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without
fear. 15 Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some
also of good will: 16 The one preach Christ of contention, not
sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds: 17 But the other of
love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel. 18 What then?
notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is
preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice. 19 For I know
that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply
of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, 20 According to my earnest expectation
and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all
boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body,
whether it be by life, or by death. 21 For to me to live is Christ, and
to die is gain. 22 But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my
labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not. 23 For I am in a strait
betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is
far better: 24 Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for
you. 25 And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and
continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith; 26 That
your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming
to you again.

1st Lesson Ezekiel 18:26
26 When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and
committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath
done shall he die. 27 Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his
wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and
right, he shall save his soul alive. 28 Because he considereth, and
turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he
shall surely live, he shall not die. 29 Yet saith the house of Israel,
The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways
equal? are not your ways unequal? 30 Therefore I will judge you, O house
of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord God. Repent,
and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not
be your ruin. 31 Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye
have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why
will ye die, O house of Israel? 32 For I have no pleasure in the death
of him that dieth, saith the Lord God: wherefore turn yourselves, and
live ye.

2nd Lesson John 4:43
43 Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee. 44
For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own
country. 45 Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received
him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast:
for they also went unto the feast. 46 So Jesus came again into Cana of
Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman,
whose son was sick at Capernaum. 47 When he heard that Jesus was come
out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he
would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death. 48
Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not
believe. 49 The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child
die. 50 Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man
believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.
51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him,
saying, Thy son liveth. 52 Then inquired he of them the hour when he
began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour
the fever left him. 53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour,
in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed,
and his whole house. 54 This is again the second miracle that Jesus did,
when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee.
