Prayer Sunday
1st Lesson Jeremiah 23:23-32
23 Am I a God at hand, saith the Lord, and not a God afar off? 24 Can any
hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the Lord. Do not
I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord. 25 I have heard what the prophets
said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed.
26 How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies?
yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart; 27 Which think to
cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to
his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal. 28 The
prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let
him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? saith the Lord.
29 Is not my word like as a fire? saith the Lord; and like a hammer that
breaketh the rock in pieces? 30 Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets,
saith the Lord, that steal my words every one from his neighbour. 31 Behold, I
am against the prophets, saith the Lord, that use their tongues, and say, He
saith. 32 Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the
Lord, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their
lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not
profit this people at all, saith the Lord.

2nd Lesson Matthew 7:13-14, 21-29
13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the
way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life,
and few there be that find it.
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the
kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy
name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many
wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you:
depart from me, ye that work iniquity. 24 Therefore whosoever heareth these
sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built
his house upon a rock: 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the
winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon
a rock. 26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them
not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat
upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. 28 And it came to
pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his
doctrine: 29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the
scribes.

1st Lesson Isaiah 5:8-12, 18-24
8 Woe unto them that join house to house, that lay field to field, till
there be no place, that they may be placed alone in the midst of the earth! 9
In mine ears said the Lord of hosts, Of a truth many houses shall be desolate,
even great and fair, without inhabitant. 10 Yea, ten acres of vineyard shall
yield one bath, and the seed of an homer shall yield an ephah. 11 Woe unto
them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink;
that continue until night, till wine inflame them! 12 And the harp, and the
viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not
the work of the Lord, neither consider the operation of his hands.
18 Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it
were with a cart rope: 19 That say, Let him make speed, and hasten his work,
that we may see it: and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw nigh
and come, that we may know it! 20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good
evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for
sweet, and sweet for bitter! 21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes,
and prudent in their own sight! 22 Woe unto them that are mighty to drink
wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink: 23 Which justify the wicked
for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him! 24
Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the
chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as
dust: because they have cast away the law of the Lord of hosts, and despised
the word of the Holy One of Israel.

2nd Lesson James 5
1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come
upon you. 2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten. 3 Your
gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against
you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure
together for the last days. 4 Behold, the hire of the labourers who have
reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the
cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of
sabaoth. 5 Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have
nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter. 6 Ye have condemned and
killed the just; and he doth not resist you. 7 Be patient therefore, brethren,
unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious
fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early
and latter rain. 8 Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of
the Lord draweth nigh. 9 Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be
condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door. 10 Take, my brethren,
the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of
suffering affliction, and of patience. 11 Behold, we count them happy which
endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the
Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy. 12 But above all
things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth,
neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye
fall into condemnation. 13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any
merry? let him sing psalms. 14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the
elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in
the name of the Lord: 15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the
Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven
him. 16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye
may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly
that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three
years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and
the earth brought forth her fruit. 19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the
truth, and one convert him; 20 Let him know, that he which converteth the
sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide
a multitude of sins.

Lesson Genesis 3
1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast
of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman,
Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? 2 And
the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of
the garden: 3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the
garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch
it, lest ye die. 4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not
surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then
your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and
evil. 6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that
it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise,
she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her
husband with her; and he did eat. 7 And the eyes of them both were
opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves
together, and made themselves aprons. 8 And they heard the voice of the
Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his
wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees
of the garden. 9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him,
Where art thou? 10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I
was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. 11 And he said, Who
told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I
commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? 12 And the man said, The
woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did
eat. 13 And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou
hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this,
thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field;
upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of
thy life: 15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and
between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt
bruise his heel. 16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy
sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children;
and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. 17
And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy
wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying,
Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow
shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; 18 Thorns also and
thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of
the field; 19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou
return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou
art, and unto dust shalt thou return. 20 And Adam called his wife's name
Eve; because she was the mother of all living. 21 Unto Adam also and to
his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them. 22 And
the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good
and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree
of life, and eat, and live for ever: 23 Therefore the Lord God sent him
forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was
taken. 24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the
garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to
keep the way of the tree of life.

Lesson Romans 5
1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have
peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2 By whom also we have
access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of
the glory of God. 3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also:
knowing that tribulation worketh patience; 4 And patience, experience;
and experience, hope: 5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of
God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto
us. 6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for
the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet
peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8 But God
commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners,
Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood,
we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10 For if, when we were
enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more,
being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. 11 And not only so, but
we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now
received the atonement. 12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the
world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all
have sinned: 13 (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not
imputed when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to
Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's
transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. 15 But not as
the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one
many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which
is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. 16 And not as it
was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to
condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.
17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they
which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall
reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) 18 Therefore as by the offence of
one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the
righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification
of life. 19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so
by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. 20 Moreover the
law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded,
grace did much more abound: 21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even
so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus
Christ our Lord.

Lesson Deuteronomy 30:11
11 For this commandment which I command thee
this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off. 12 It is
not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to
heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it? 13 Neither
is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea
for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it? 14 But the
word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou
mayest do it. 15 See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and
death and evil; 16 In that I command thee this day to love the Lord thy
God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes
and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the Lord thy
God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it. 17
But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be
drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them; 18 I denounce unto
you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong
your days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to
possess it. 19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you,
that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing:
therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: 20 That
thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice,
and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length
of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord sware
unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

Lesson John 13:1-17, 34-35
1 Now before the feast of the passover, when
Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this
world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he
loved them unto the end. 2 And supper being ended, the devil having now
put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him; 3
Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and
that he was come from God, and went to God; 4 He riseth from supper, and
laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. 5 After
that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples'
feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. 6 Then
cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash
my feet? 7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not
now; but thou shalt know hereafter. 8 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt
never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no
part with me. 9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but
also my hands and my head. 10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed
needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are
clean, but not all. 11 For he knew who should betray him; therefore said
he, Ye are not all clean. 12 So after he had washed their feet, and had
taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye
what I have done to you? 13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well;
for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet;
ye also ought to wash one another's feet. 15 For I have given you an
example, that ye should do as I have done to you. 16 Verily, verily, I
say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that
is sent greater than he that sent him. 17 If ye know these things, happy
are ye if ye do them.
34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye
love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. 35
By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one
to another.

Lesson Job 21:17-33
17 How oft is the candle of the wicked put out!
and how oft cometh their destruction upon them! God distributeth sorrows
in his anger. 18 They are as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that
the storm carrieth away. 19 God layeth up his iniquity for his children:
he rewardeth him, and he shall know it. 20 His eyes shall see his
destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty. 21 For
what pleasure hath he in his house after him, when the number of his
months is cut off in the midst? 22 Shall any teach God knowledge? seeing
he judgeth those that are high. 23 One dieth in his full strength, being
wholly at ease and quiet. 24 His breasts are full of milk, and his bones
are moistened with marrow. 25 And another dieth in the bitterness of his
soul, and never eateth with pleasure. 26 They shall lie down alike in
the dust, and the worms shall cover them. 27 Behold, I know your
thoughts, and the devices which ye wrongfully imagine against me. 28 For
ye say, Where is the house of the prince? and where are the dwelling
places of the wicked? 29 Have ye not asked them that go by the way? and
do ye not know their tokens, 30 That the wicked is reserved to the day
of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath. 31 Who
shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay him what he hath
done? 32 Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the
tomb. 33 The clods of the valley shall be sweet unto him, and every man
shall draw after him, as there are innumerable before him.

Lesson Luke 16:19
19 There was a certain rich man, which was
clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: 20
And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his
gate, full of sores, 21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which
fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his
sores. 22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by
the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham
afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried and said, Father
Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of
his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this
flame. 25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime
receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he
is comforted, and thou art tormented. 26 And beside all this, between us
and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from
hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from
thence. 27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou
wouldest send him to my father's house: 28 For I have five brethren;
that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of
torment. 29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets;
let them hear them. 30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went
unto them from the dead, they will repent. 31 And he said unto him, If
they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded,
though one rose from the dead.

Lesson 1 Samuel 1:1-11, 19-20
1 Now there was a certain man of
Ramathaimzophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of
Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an
Ephrathite: 2 And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and
the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah
had no children. 3 And this man went up out of his city yearly to
worship and to sacrifice unto the Lord of hosts in Shiloh. And the two
sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the Lord, were there. 4
And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his
wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions: 5 But unto Hannah
he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the Lord had shut up
her womb. 6 And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her
fret, because the Lord had shut up her womb. 7 And as he did so year by
year, when she went up to the house of the Lord, so she provoked her;
therefore she wept, and did not eat. 8 Then said Elkanah her husband to
her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy
heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons? 9 So Hannah rose
up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the
priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the Lord. 10 And she
was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the Lord, and wept sore. 11
And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look
on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget
thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I
will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and there shall no
razor come upon his head.
19 And they rose up in the morning early, and
worshipped before the Lord, and returned, and came to their house to
Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the Lord remembed her. 20
Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had
conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying,
Because I have asked him of the Lord.

Lesson Acts 6
1 And in those days, when the number of the
disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians
against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily
ministration. 2 Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples
unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of
God, and serve tables. 3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you
seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we
may appoint over this business. 4 But we will give ourselves continually
to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. 5 And the saying pleased the
whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the
Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and
Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch: 6 Whom they set before the
apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them. 7 And
the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in
Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to
the faith. 8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and
miracles among the people. 9 Then there arose certain of the synagogue,
which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and
Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with
Stephen. 10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit
by which he spake. 11 Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard
him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God. 12 And they
stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon
him, and caught him, and brought him to the council, 13 And set up false
witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words
against this holy place, and the law: 14 For we have heard him say, that
this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the
customs which Moses delivered us. 15 And all that sat in the council,
looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an
angel.

Lesson Numbers 22:2-14
2 And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that
Israel had done to the Amorites. 3 And Moab was sore afraid of the
people, because they were many: and Moab was distressed because of the
children of Israel. 4 And Moab said unto the elders of Midian, Now shall
this company lick up all that are round about us, as the ox licketh up
the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the
Moabites at that time. 5 He sent messengers therefore unto Balaam the
son of Beor to Pethor, which is by the river of the land of the children
of his people, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out
from Egypt: behold, they cover the face of the earth, and they abide
over against me: 6 Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this
people; for they are too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail,
that we may smite them, and that I may drive them out of the land: for I
wot that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is
cursed. 7 And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with
the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came unto Balaam, and
spake unto him the words of Balak. 8 And he said unto them, Lodge here
this night, and I will bring you word again, as the Lord shall speak
unto me: and the princes of Moab abode with Balaam. 9 And God came unto
Balaam, and said, What men are these with thee? 10 And Balaam said unto
God, Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, hath sent unto me, saying,
11 Behold, there is a people come out of Egypt, which covereth the face
of the earth: come now, curse me them; peradventure I shall be able to
overcome them, and drive them out. 12 And God said unto Balaam, Thou
shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curse the people: for they are
blessed. 13 And Balaam rose up in the morning, and said unto the princes
of Balak, Get you into your land: for the Lord refuseth to give me leave
to go with you. 14 And the princes of Moab rose up, and they went unto
Balak, and said, Balaam refuseth to come with us.

Lesson Luke 2:21-40
21 And when eight days were accomplished for the
circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named
of the angel before he was conceived in the womb. 22 And when the days
of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished,
they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord; 23 (As it is
written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall
be called holy to the Lord;) 24 And to offer a sacrifice according to
that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two
young pigeons. 25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name
was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the
consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. 26 And it was
revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death,
before he had seen the Lord's Christ. 27 And he came by the Spirit into
the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for
him after the custom of the law, 28 Then took he him up in his arms, and
blessed God, and said, 29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in
peace, according to thy word: 30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; 32 A light to
lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. 33 And Joseph
and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him. 34
And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this
child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a
sign which shall be spoken against; 35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce
through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be
revealed. 36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of
Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived
with an husband seven years from her virginity; 37 And she was a widow
of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple,
but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. 38 And she
coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of
him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem. 39 And when
they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they
returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth. 40 And the child
grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of
God was upon him.

Lesson Ezra 5:1-2, 6-17
1 Then the prophets, Haggai the prophet, and
Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophesied unto the Jews that were in Judah
and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, even unto them. 2 Then
rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak,
and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem: and with them
were the prophets of God helping them.
6 The copy of the letter that Tatnai, governor
on this side the river, and Shetharboznai, and his companions the
Apharsachites, which were on this side the river, sent unto Darius the
king: 7 They sent a letter unto him, wherein was written thus; Unto
Darius the king, all peace. 8 Be it known unto the king, that we went
into the province of Judea, to the house of the great God, which is
builded with great stones, and timber is laid in the walls, and this
work goeth fast on, and prospereth in their hands. 9 Then asked we those
elders, and said unto them thus, Who commanded you to build this house,
and to make up these walls? 10 We asked their names also, to certify
thee, that we might write the names of the men that were the chief of
them. 11 And thus they returned us answer, saying, We are the servants
of the God of heaven and earth, and build the house that was builded
these many years ago, which a great king of Israel builded and set up.
12 But after that our fathers had provoked the God of heaven unto wrath,
he gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, the
Chaldean, who destroyed this house, and carried the people away into
Babylon. 13 But in the first year of Cyrus the king of Babylon the same
king Cyrus made a decree to build this house of God. 14 And the vessels
also of gold and silver of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took
out of the temple that was in Jerusalem, and brought them into the
temple of Babylon, those did Cyrus the king take out of the temple of
Babylon, and they were delivered unto one, whose name was Sheshbazzar,
whom he had made governor; 15 And said unto him, Take these vessels, go,
carry them into the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of
God be builded in his place. 16 Then came the same Sheshbazzar, and laid
the foundation of the house of God which is in Jerusalem: and since that
time even until now hath it been in building, and yet it is not
finished. 17 Now therefore, if it seem good to the king, let there be
search made in the king's treasure house, which is there at Babylon,
whether it be so, that a decree was made of Cyrus the king to build this
house of God at Jerusalem, and let the king send his pleasure to us
concerning this matter.

Lesson Acts 9:1-19
1 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and
slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,
2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he
found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring
them bound unto Jerusalem. 3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus:
and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: 4 And he
fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why
persecutest thou me? 5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord
said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick
against the pricks. 6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what
wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into
the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. 7 And the men
which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing
no man. 8 And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened,
he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into
Damascus. 9 And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor
drink. 10 And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias;
and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am
here, Lord. 11 And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street
which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judas for one
called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth, 12 And hath seen in a
vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that
he might receive his sight. 13 Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard
by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at
Jerusalem: 14 And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind
all that call on thy name. 15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way:
for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles,
and kings, and the children of Israel: 16 For I will shew him how great
things he must suffer for my name's sake. 17 And Ananias went his way,
and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother
Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou
camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be
filled with the Holy Ghost. 18 And immediately there fell from his eyes
as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and
was baptized. 19 And when he had received meat, he was strengthened.
Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at
Damascus.

Lesson Numbers 22:15-21, 36-40
15 And Balak sent yet again princes, more, and
more honourable than they. 16 And they came to Balaam, and said to him,
Thus saith Balak the son of Zippor, Let nothing, I pray thee, hinder
thee from coming unto me: 17 For I will promote thee unto very great
honour, and I will do whatsoever thou sayest unto me: come therefore, I
pray thee, curse me this people. 18 And Balaam answered and said unto
the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver
and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the Lord my God, to do less or
more. 19 Now therefore, I pray you, tarry ye also here this night, that
I may know what the Lord will say unto me more. 20 And God came unto
Balaam at night, and said unto him, If the men come to call thee, rise
up, and go with them; but yet the word which I shall say unto thee, that
shalt thou do. 21 And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his
ass, and went with the princes of Moab.
36 And when Balak heard that Balaam was come, he
went out to meet him unto a city of Moab, which is in the border of
Arnon, which is in the utmost coast. 37 And Balak said unto Balaam, Did
I not earnestly send unto thee to call thee? wherefore camest thou not
unto me? am I not able indeed to promote thee to honour? 38 And Balaam
said unto Balak, Lo, I am come unto thee: have I now any power at all to
say any thing? the word that God putteth in my mouth, that shall I
speak. 39 And Balaam went with Balak, and they came unto Kirjathhuzoth.
40 And Balak offered oxen and sheep, and sent to Balaam, and to the
princes that were with him.

Lesson Luke 2:41
41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year
at the feast of the passover. 42 And when he was twelve years old, they
went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. 43 And when they had
fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in
Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. 44 But they,
supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and
they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. 45 And when they
found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. 46 And
it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple,
sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them
questions. 47 And all that heard him were astonished at his
understanding and answers. 48 And when they saw him, they were amazed:
and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us?
behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. 49 And he said unto
them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my
Father's business? 50 And they understood not the saying which he spake
unto them. 51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was
subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and
man.

Lesson Ezra 6:1-12
1 Then Darius the king made a decree, and search
was made in the house of the rolls, where the treasures were laid up in
Babylon. 2 And there was found at Achmetha, in the palace that is in the
province of the Medes, a roll, and therein was a record thus written: 3
In the first year of Cyrus the king the same Cyrus the king made a
decree concerning the house of God at Jerusalem, Let the house be
builded, the place where they offered sacrifices, and let the
foundations thereof be strongly laid; the height thereof threescore
cubits, and the breadth thereof threescore cubits; 4 With three rows of
great stones, and a row of new timber: and let the expenses be given out
of the king's house: 5 And also let the golden and silver vessels of the
house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took forth out of the temple which is
at Jerusalem, and brought unto Babylon, be restored, and brought again
unto the temple which is at Jerusalem, every one to his place, and place
them in the house of God. 6 Now therefore, Tatnai, governor beyond the
river, Shetharboznai, and your companions the Apharsachites, which are
beyond the river, be ye far from thence: 7 Let the work of this house of
God alone; let the governor of the Jews and the elders of the Jews build
this house of God in his place. 8 Moreover I make a decree what ye shall
do to the elders of these Jews for the building of this house of God:
that of the king's goods, even of the tribute beyond the river,
forthwith expenses be given unto these men, that they be not hindered. 9
And that which they have need of, both young bullocks, and rams, and
lambs, for the burnt offerings of the God of heaven, wheat, salt, wine,
and oil, according to the appointment of the priests which are at
Jerusalem, let it be given them day by day without fail: 10 That they
may offer sacrifices of sweet savours unto the God of heaven, and pray
for the life of the king, and of his sons. 11 Also I have made a decree,
that whosoever shall alter this word, let timber be pulled down from his
house, and being set up, let him be hanged thereon; and let his house be
made a dunghill for this. 12 And the God that hath caused his name to
dwell there destroy all kings and people, that shall put to their hand
to alter and to destroy this house of God which is at Jerusalem. I
Darius have made a decree; let it be done with speed.

Lesson Acts 9:20-31
20 And straightway he preached Christ in the
synagogues, that he is the Son of God. 21 But all that heard him were
amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on
this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might
bring them bound unto the chief priests? 22 But Saul increased the more
in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving
that this is very Christ. 23 And after that many days were fulfilled,
the Jews took counsel to kill him: 24 But their laying await was known
of Saul. And they watched the gates day and night to kill him. 25 Then
the disciples took him by night, and let him down by the wall in a
basket. 26 And when Saul was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join
himself to the disciples: but they were all afraid of him, and believed
not that he was a disciple. 27 But Barnabas took him, and brought him to
the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the
way, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at
Damascus in the name of Jesus. 28 And he was with them coming in and
going out at Jerusalem. 29 And he spake boldly in the name of the Lord
Jesus, and disputed against the Grecians: but they went about to slay
him. 30 Which when the brethren knew, they brought him down to Caesarea,
and sent him forth to Tarsus. 31 Then had the churches rest throughout
all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the
fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were
multiplied.

Lesson Numbers 22:41. 23:12
41 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Balak
took Balaam, and brought him up into the high places of Baal, that
thence he might see the utmost part of the people.
1 And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here
seven altars, and prepare me here seven oxen and seven rams. 2 And Balak
did as Balaam had spoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a
bullock and a ram. 3 And Balaam said unto Balak, Stand by thy burnt
offering, and I will go: peradventure the Lord will come to meet me: and
whatsoever he sheweth me I will tell thee. And he went to an high place.
4 And God met Balaam: and he said unto him, I have prepared seven
altars, and I have offered upon every altar a bullock and a ram. 5 And
the Lord put a word in Balaam's mouth, and said, Return unto Balak, and
thus thou shalt speak. 6 And he returned unto him, and, lo, he stood by
his burnt sacrifice, he, and all the princes of Moab. 7 And he took up
his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from Aram,
out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me Jacob, and
come, defy Israel. 8 How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? or how
shall I defy, whom the Lord hath not defied? 9 For from the top of the
rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall
dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations. 10 Who can
count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel?
Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!
11 And Balak said unto Balaam, What hast thou done unto me? I took thee
to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed them altogether.
12 And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which
the Lord hath put in my mouth?

Lesson Luke 3:1-22
1 Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of
Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod
being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea
and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene,
2 Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto
John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness. 3 And he came into all the
country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the
remission of sins; 4 As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias
the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare
ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. 5 Every valley shall be
filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the
crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth;
6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of God. 7 Then said he to the
multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers,
who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Bring forth
therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within
yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God
is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. 9 And now
also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore
which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the
fire. 10 And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then? 11 He
answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to
him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise. 12 Then
came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what
shall we do? 13 And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is
appointed you. 14 And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And
what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither
accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages. 15 And as the people
were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether
he were the Christ, or not; 16 John answered, saying unto them all, I
indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the
latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you
with the Holy Ghost and with fire: 17 Whose fan is in his hand, and he
will throughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his
garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable. 18 And many
other things in his exhortation preached he unto the people. 19 But
Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother
Philip's wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done, 20 Added yet
this above all, that he shut up John in prison. 21 Now when all the
people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized,
and praying, the heaven was opened, 22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a
bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which
said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.

13 Then Tatnai, governor on this side the river,

Lesson Acts 9:32
32 And it came to pass, as Peter passed
throughout all quarters, he came down also to the saints which dwelt at
Lydda. 33 And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, which had kept
his bed eight years, and was sick of the palsy. 34 And Peter said unto
him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed.
And he arose immediately. 35 And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw

disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this
woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did. 37 And it came
to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had
washed, they laid her in an upper chamber. 38 And forasmuch as Lydda was
nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they
sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to
them. 39 Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they
brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him
weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she
was with them. 40 But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and
prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened
her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up. 41 And he gave her his
hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows,
presented her alive. 42 And it was known throughout all Joppa; and many
believed in the Lord. 43 And it came to pass, that he tarried many days
in Joppa with one Simon a tanner.

13 And Balak said unto him, Come, I pray thee,
with me unto another place, from whence thou mayest see them: thou shalt
see but the utmost part of them, and shalt not see them all: and curse
me them from thence. 14 And he brought him into the field of Zophim, to

put a word in his mouth, and said, Go again unto Balak, and say thus. 17
And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his burnt offering, and the
princes of Moab with him. And Balak said unto him, What hath the Lord
spoken? 18 And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balak, and
hear; hearken unto me, thou son of Zippor: 19 God is not a man, that he
should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said,
and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it
good? 20 Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath
blessed; and I cannot reverse it. 21 He hath not beheld iniquity in
Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: the Lord his God is
with him, and the shout of a king is among them. 22 God brought them out
of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn. 23 Surely there
is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against
Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel,
What hath God wrought! 24 Behold, the people shall rise up as a great
lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until
he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain. 25 And Balak said
unto Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all. 26 But

Lesson Luke 4:1-13
1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost
returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2
Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat
nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. 3 And the
devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that
it be made bread. 4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That
man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. 5 And the
devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the
kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the devil said unto
him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is
delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. 7 If thou
therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. 8 And Jesus answered and
said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt
worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 9 And he
brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and
said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:
10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep
thee: 11 And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time
thou dash thy foot against a stone. 12 And Jesus answering said unto

devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a

Lesson Zechariah 7:8
8 And the word of the Lord came unto Zechariah,
saying, 9 Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, saying, Execute true
judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother: 10
And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the
poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your
heart. 11 But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and
stopped their ears, that they should not hear. 12 Yea, they made their
hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words
which the Lord of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former prophets:
therefore came a great wrath from the Lord of hosts. 13 Therefore it is
come to pass, that as he cried, and they would not hear; so they cried,
and I would not hear, saith the Lord of hosts: 14 But I scattered them
with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not. Thus the land
was desolate after them, that no man passed through nor returned: for
they laid the pleasant land desolate.

Lesson Acts 10:1-23
1 There was a certain man in Caesarea called
Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band, 2 A devout
man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to
the people, and prayed to God alway. 3 He saw in a vision evidently
about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and
saying unto him, Cornelius. 4 And when he looked on him, he was afraid,
and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine
alms are come up for a memorial before God. 5 And now send men to Joppa,
and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter: 6 He lodgeth with one
Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what
thou oughtest to do. 7 And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was
departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier
of them that waited on him continually; 8 And when he had declared all
these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa. 9 On the morrow, as they
went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon
the housetop to pray about the sixth hour: 10 And he became very hungry,
and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
11 And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as
it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the
earth: 12 Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and
wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. 13 And there
came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. 14 But Peter said, Not
so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. 15
And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath
cleansed, that call not thou common. 16 This was done thrice: and the
vessel was received up again into heaven. 17 Now while Peter doubted in
himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men
which were sent from Cornelius had made inquiry for Simon's house, and
stood before the gate, 18 And called, and asked whether Simon, which was
surnamed Peter, were lodged there. 19 While Peter thought on the vision,
the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee. 20 Arise
therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I
have sent them. 21 Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto
him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the
cause wherefore ye are come? 22 And they said, Cornelius the centurion,
a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the
nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for
thee into his house, and to hear words of thee. 23 Then called he them
in, and lodged them. And on the morrow Peter went away with them, and
certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.

27 And Balak said unto Balaam, Come, I pray
thee, I will bring thee unto another place; peradventure it will please
God that thou mayest curse me them from thence. 28 And Balak brought
Balaam unto the top of Peor, that looketh toward Jeshimon. 29 And Balaam

1 And when Balaam saw that it pleased the Lord
to bless Israel, he went not, as at other times, to seek for
enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness. 2 And Balaam
lifted up his eyes, and he saw Israel abiding in his tents according to
their tribes; and the spirit of God came upon him. 3 And he took up his
parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose
eyes are open hath said: 4 He hath said, which heard the words of God,
which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having
his eyes open: 5 How goodly are thy tents, O Jacob, and thy tabernacles,
O Israel! 6 As the valleys are they spread forth, as gardens by the
river's side, as the trees of lign aloes which the Lord hath planted,
and as cedar trees beside the waters. 7 He shall pour the water out of
his buckets, and his seed shall be in many waters, and his king shall be
higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted. 8 God brought him
forth out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn: he
shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and
pierce them through with his arrows. 9 He couched, he lay down as a
lion, and as a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that
blesseth thee, and cursed is he that curseth thee. 10 And Balak's anger
was kindled against Balaam, and he smote his hands together: and Balak
said unto Balaam, I called thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou
hast altogether blessed them these three times. 11 Therefore now flee
thou to thy place: I thought to promote thee unto great honour; but, lo,
the Lord hath kept thee back from honour. 12 And Balaam said unto Balak,
Spake I not also to thy messengers which thou sentest unto me, saying,
13 If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go
beyond the commandment of the Lord, to do either good or bad of mine own
mind; but what the Lord saith, that will I speak?
25 And Balaam rose up, and went and returned to
his place: and Balak also went his way.

Lesson Luke 4:14-30
14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit
into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region
round about. 15 And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of
all. 16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as
his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood
up for to read. 17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the
prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place
where it was written, 18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he
hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to
heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and
recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are
bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. 20 And he closed
the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the
eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 And
he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your
ears. 22 And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words
which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's
son? 23 And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb,
Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do
also here in thy country. 24 And he said, Verily I say unto you, No
prophet is accepted in his own country. 25 But I tell you of a truth,
many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was
shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all
the land; 26 But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a
city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow. 27 And many lepers were in
Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was
cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian. 28 And all they in the synagogue,
when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, 29 And rose up,
and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill
whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong. 30
But he passing through the midst of them went his way,

Lesson Zechariah 8:1-13
1 Again the word of the Lord of hosts came to
me, saying, 2 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; I was jealous for Zion with
great jealousy, and I was jealous for her with great fury. 3 Thus saith
the Lord; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of
Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the
mountain of the Lord of hosts the holy mountain. 4 Thus saith the Lord
of hosts; There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of
Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age. 5 And
the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the
streets thereof. 6 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; If it be marvellous in
the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, should it also be
marvellous in mine eyes? saith the Lord of hosts. 7 Thus saith the Lord
of hosts; Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from
the west country; 8 And I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the
midst of Jerusalem: and they shall be my people, and I will be their
God, in truth and in righteousness. 9 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Let
your hands be strong, ye that hear in these days these words by the
mouth of the prophets, which were in the day that the foundation of the
house of the Lord of hosts was laid, that the temple might be built. 10
For before these days there was no hire for man, nor any hire for beast;
neither was there any peace to him that went out or came in because of
the affliction: for I set all men every one against his neighbour. 11
But now I will not be unto the residue of this people as in the former
days, saith the Lord of hosts. 12 For the seed shall be prosperous; the
vine shall give her fruit, and the ground shall give her increase, and
the heavens shall give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this
people to possess all these things. 13 And it shall come to pass, that
as ye were a curse among the heathen, O house of Judah, and house of
Israel; so will I save you, and ye shall be a blessing: fear not, but
let your hands be strong.

Lesson Acts 10:24-33
24 And the morrow after they entered into
Caesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his
kinsmen and near friends. 25 And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met
him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him. 26 But Peter took
him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man. 27 And as he talked
with him, he went in, and found many that were come together. 28 And he
said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that
is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God
hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean. 29
Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for:
I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent for me? 30 And Cornelius
said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour
I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright
clothing, 31 And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms
are had in remembrance in the sight of God. 32 Send therefore to Joppa,
and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house
of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak
unto thee. 33 Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well
done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before
God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.

Lesson Deuteronomy 34
1 And Moses went up from the plains of Moab unto
the mountain of Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is over against
Jericho. And the Lord shewed him all the land of Gilead, unto Dan, 2 And
all Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim, and Manasseh, and all the land of
Judah, unto the utmost sea, 3 And the south, and the plain of the valley
of Jericho, the city of palm trees, unto Zoar. 4 And the Lord said unto
him, This is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto
Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see
it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither. 5 So Moses the
servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, according to the
word of the Lord. 6 And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab,
over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this
day. 7 And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his
eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated. 8 And the children of
Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days: so the days of
weeping and mourning for Moses were ended. 9 And Joshua the son of Nun
was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him:
and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the Lord
commanded Moses. 10 And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like
unto Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face, 11 In all the signs and the
wonders, which the Lord sent him to do in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh,
and to all his servants, and to all his land, 12 And in all that mighty
hand, and in all the great terror which Moses shewed in the sight of all
Israel.

Lesson Luke 4:31-41
31 And came down to Capernaum, a city of
Galilee, and taught them on the sabbath days. 32 And they were
astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power. 33 And in the
synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and
cried out with a loud voice, 34 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do
with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know
thee who thou art; the Holy One of God. 35 And Jesus rebuked him,
saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had
thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not. 36 And
they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is
this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits,
and they come out. 37 And the fame of him went out into every place of
the country round about. 38 And he arose out of the synagogue, and
entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a
great fever; and they besought him for her. 39 And he stood over her,
and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and
ministered unto them. 40 Now when the sun was setting, all they that had
any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his
hands on every one of them, and healed them. 41 And devils also came out
of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he
rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was
Christ.

Lesson Zechariah 8:14
14 For thus saith the Lord of hosts; As I
thought to punish you, when your fathers provoked me to wrath, saith the
Lord of hosts, and I repented not: 15 So again have I thought in these
days to do well unto Jerusalem and to the house of Judah: fear ye not.
16 These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth
to his neighbour; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates:
17 And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his
neighbour; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate,
saith the Lord. 18 And the word of the Lord of hosts came unto me,
saying, 19 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; The fast of the fourth month,
and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of
the tenth, shall be to the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful
feasts; therefore love the truth and peace. 20 Thus saith the Lord of
hosts; It shall yet come to pass, that there shall come people, and the
inhabitants of many cities: 21 And the inhabitants of one city shall go
to another, saying, Let us go speedily to pray before the Lord, and to
seek the Lord of hosts: I will go also. 22 Yea, many people and strong
nations shall come to seek the Lord of hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray
before the Lord. 23 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; In those days it shall
come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the
nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying,
We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you.

Lesson Acts 10:34
34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a
truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: 35 But in every
nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with
him. 36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching
peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:) 37 That word, I say, ye
know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee,
after the baptism which John preached; 38 How God anointed Jesus of
Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good,
and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of
the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree: 40 Him
God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly; 41 Not to all the
people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat
and drink with him after he rose from the dead. 42 And he commanded us
to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was
ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. 43 To him give all
the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him
shall receive remission of sins. 44 While Peter yet spake these words,
the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. 45 And they of the
circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter,
because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy
Ghost. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then
answered Peter, 47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be
baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? 48 And he
commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they
him to tarry certain days.
