Lesson Ecclesiasticus
(Wisdom of Sirach) 15:11
11 Say not thou, It is through the Lord that I
fell away: for thou oughtest not to do the things that he hateth. 12 Say
not thou, He hath caused me to err: for he hath no need of the sinful
man. 13 The Lord hateth all abomination; and they that fear God love it
not. 14 He himself made man from the beginning, and left him in the hand
of his counsel; 15 If thou wilt, to keep the commandments, and to
perform acceptable faithfulness. 16 He hath set fire and water before
thee: stretch forth thy hand unto whether thou wilt. 17 Before man is
life and death; and whether him liketh shall be given him. 18 For the
wisdom of the Lord is great, and he is mighty in power, and beholdeth
all things: 19 And his eyes are upon them that fear him, and he knoweth
every work of man. 20 He hath commanded no man to do wickedly, neither
hath he given any man licence to sin.

Lesson Philippians 2:12-18
12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always
obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence,
work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For it is God
which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. 14 Do
all things without murmurings and disputings: 15 That ye may be
blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of
a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the
world; 16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day
of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain. 17
Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I
joy, and rejoice with you all. 18 For the same cause also do ye joy, and
rejoice with me.

Lesson Ecclesiasticus
(Wisdom of Sirach) 38:1-14
1 Honour a physician with the honour due unto
him for the uses which ye may have of him: for the Lord hath created
him. 2 For of the most High cometh healing, and he shall receive honour
of the king. 3 The skill of the physician shall lift up his head: and in
the sight of great men he shall be in admiration. 4 The Lord hath
created medicines out of the earth; and he that is wise will not abhor
them. 5 Was not the water made sweet with wood, that the virtue thereof
might be known? 6 And he hath given men skill, that he might be honoured
in his marvellous works. 7 With such doth he heal [men,] and taketh away
their pains. 8 Of such doth the apothecary make a confection; and of his
works there is no end; and from him is peace over all the earth, 9 My
son, in thy sickness be not negligent: but pray unto the Lord, and he
will make thee whole. 10 Leave off from sin, and order thine hands
aright, and cleanse thy heart from all wickedness. 11 Give a sweet
savour, and a memorial of fine flour; and make a fat offering, as not
being. 12 Then give place to the physician, for the Lord hath created
him: let him not go from thee, for thou hast need of him. 13 There is a
time when in their hands there is good success. 14 For they shall also
pray unto the Lord, that he would prosper that, which they give for ease
and remedy to prolong life.

Lesson Luke 4:31
31 And came down to Capernaum, a city of
Galilee, and taught them on the sabbath days. 32 And they were
astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power. 33 And in the
synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and
cried out with a loud voice, 34 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do
with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know
thee who thou art; the Holy One of God. 35 And Jesus rebuked him,
saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had
thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not. 36 And
they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is
this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits,
and they come out. 37 And the fame of him went out into every place of
the country round about. 38 And he arose out of the synagogue, and
entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a
great fever; and they besought him for her. 39 And he stood over her,
and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and
ministered unto them. 40 Now when the sun was setting, all they that had
any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his
hands on every one of them, and healed them. 41 And devils also came out
of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he
rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was
Christ. 42 And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert
place: and the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him,
that he should not depart from them. 43 And he said unto them, I must
preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent.
44 And he preached in the synagogues of Galilee.

Lesson Genesis 41:1a, 8, 14-40
1 And it came to pass at the end of two full
years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and, behold, he stood by the river.
8 And it came to pass in the morning that his
spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of
Egypt, and all the wise men thereof: and Pharaoh told them his dream;
but there was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh.
14 Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they
brought him hastily out of the dungeon: and he shaved himself, and
changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh. 15 And Pharaoh said unto
Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it:
and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to
interpret it. 16 And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me:
God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace. 17 And Pharaoh said unto
Joseph, In my dream, behold, I stood upon the bank of the river: 18 And,
behold, there came up out of the river seven kine, fatfleshed and well
favoured; and they fed in a meadow: 19 And, behold, seven other kine
came up after them, poor and very ill favoured and leanfleshed, such as
I never saw in all the land of Egypt for badness: 20 And the lean and
the ill favoured kine did eat up the first seven fat kine: 21 And when
they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them;
but they were still ill favoured, as at the beginning. So I awoke. 22
And I saw in my dream, and, behold, seven ears came up in one stalk,
full and good: 23 And, behold, seven ears, withered, thin, and blasted
with the east wind, sprung up after them: 24 And the thin ears devoured
the seven good ears: and I told this unto the magicians; but there was
none that could declare it to me. 25 And Joseph said unto Pharaoh, The
dream of Pharaoh is one: God hath shewed Pharaoh what he is about to do.
26 The seven good kine are seven years; and the seven good ears are
seven years: the dream is one. 27 And the seven thin and ill favoured
kine that came up after them are seven years; and the seven empty ears
blasted with the east wind shall be seven years of famine. 28 This is
the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh: What God is about to do he
sheweth unto Pharaoh. 29 Behold, there come seven years of great plenty
throughout all the land of Egypt: 30 And there shall arise after them
seven years of famine; and all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land
of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land; 31 And the plenty shall
not be known in the land by reason of that famine following; for it
shall be very grievous. 32 And for that the dream was doubled unto
Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is established by God, and God
will shortly bring it to pass. 33 Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a
man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt. 34 Let
Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up
the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years. 35 And
let them gather all the food of those good years that come, and lay up
corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities. 36
And that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of
famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not
through the famine. 37 And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh,
and in the eyes of all his servants. 38 And Pharaoh said unto his
servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the spirit of
God is? 39 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed
thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art: 40 Thou
shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people
be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.

Lesson Colossians 3:22. 4:6
22 Servants, obey in all things your masters
according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in
singleness of heart, fearing God: 23 And whatsoever ye do, do it
heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; 24 Knowing that of the Lord
ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord
Christ. 25 But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he
hath done: and there is no respect of persons.
1 Masters, give unto your servants that which is
just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven. 2 Continue
in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving; 3 Withal praying
also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak
the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds: 4 That I may make
it manifest, as I ought to speak. 5 Walk in wisdom toward them that are
without, redeeming the time. 6 Let your speech be alway with grace,
seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every
man.

Lesson Tobit 13:1b-5,
7-11
1 Then Tobit wrote a prayer of rejoicing, and
said, Blessed be God that liveth for ever, and blessed be his kingdom. 2
For he doth scourge, and hath mercy: he leadeth down to hell, and
bringeth up again: neither is there any that can avoid his hand. 3
Confess him before the Gentiles, ye children of Israel: for he hath
scattered us among them. 4 There declare his greatness, and extol him
before all the living: for he is our Lord, and he is the God our Father
for ever. 5 And he will scourge us for our iniquities, and will have
mercy again, and will gather us out of all nations, among whom he hath
scattered us.
7 I will extol my God, and my soul shall praise
the King of heaven, and shall rejoice in his greatness. 8 Let all men
speak, and let all praise him for his righteousness. 9 O Jerusalem, the
holy city, he will scourge thee for thy children's works, and will have
mercy again on the sons of the righteous. 10 Give praise to the Lord,
for he is good: and praise the everlasting King, that his tabernacle may
be builded in thee again with joy, and let him make joyful there in thee
those that are captives, and love in thee for ever those that are
miserable. 11 Many nations shall come from far to the name of the Lord
God with gifts in their hands, even gifts to the King of heaven; all
generations shall praise thee with great joy.

Lesson Romans 15:14-21
14 And I myself also am persuaded of you, my
brethren, that ye also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge,
able also to admonish one another. 15 Nevertheless, brethren, I have
written the more boldly unto you in some sort, as putting you in mind,
because of the grace that is given to me of God, 16 That I should be the
minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God,
that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being
sanctified by the Holy Ghost. 17 I have therefore whereof I may glory
through Jesus Christ in those things which pertain to God. 18 For I will
not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ hath not wrought
by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed, 19 Through
mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that
from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached
the gospel of Christ. 20 Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel,
not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man's
foundation: 21 But as it is written, To whom he was not spoken of, they
shall see: and they that have not heard shall understand.

Lesson Isaiah 29:18
18 And in that day shall the deaf hear the words
of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and
out of darkness. 19 The meek also shall increase their joy in the Lord,
and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel. 20 For
the terrible one is brought to nought, and the scorner is consumed, and
all that watch for iniquity are cut off: 21 That make a man an offender
for a word, and lay a snare for him that reproveth in the gate, and turn
aside the just for a thing of nought. 22 Therefore thus saith the Lord,
who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob, Jacob shall not now
be ashamed, neither shall his face now wax pale. 23 But when he seeth
his children, the work of mine hands, in the midst of him, they shall
sanctify my name, and sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall fear the
God of Israel. 24 They also that erred in spirit shall come to
understanding, and they that murmured shall learn doctrine.

31 And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre
and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the
coasts of Decapolis. 32 And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and
had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand
upon him. 33 And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his
fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue; 34 And
looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is,
Be opened. 35 And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of
his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain. 36 And he charged them that
they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more
a great deal they published it; 37 And were beyond measure astonished,
saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear,
and the dumb to speak.

Lesson 2 Samuel 15:1-23
1 And it came to pass after this, that Absalom
prepared him chariots and horses, and fifty men to run before him. 2 And
Absalom rose up early, and stood beside the way of the gate: and it was
so, that when any man that had a controversy came to the king for
judgment, then Absalom called unto him, and said, Of what city art thou?
And he said, Thy servant is of one of the tribes of Israel. 3 And
Absalom said unto him, See, thy matters are good and right; but there is
no man deputed of the king to hear thee. 4 Absalom said moreover, Oh
that I were made judge in the land, that every man which hath any suit
or cause might come unto me, and I would do him justice! 5 And it was
so, that when any man came nigh to him to do him obeisance, he put forth
his hand, and took him, and kissed him. 6 And on this manner did Absalom
to all Israel that came to the king for judgment: so Absalom stole the
hearts of the men of Israel. 7 And it came to pass after forty years,
that Absalom said unto the king, I pray thee, let me go and pay my vow,
which I have vowed unto the Lord, in Hebron. 8 For thy servant vowed a
vow while I abode at Geshur in Syria, saying, If the Lord shall bring me
again indeed to Jerusalem, then I will serve the Lord. 9 And the king
said unto him, Go in peace. So he arose, and went to Hebron. 10 But
Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, As soon
as ye hear the sound of the trumpet, then ye shall say, Absalom reigneth
in Hebron. 11 And with Absalom went two hundred men out of Jerusalem,
that were called; and they went in their simplicity, and they knew not
any thing. 12 And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's
counsellor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he offered sacrifices.
And the conspiracy was strong; for the people increased continually with
Absalom. 13 And there came a messenger to David, saying, The hearts of
the men of Israel are after Absalom. 14 And David said unto all his
servants that were with him at Jerusalem, Arise, and let us flee; for we
shall not else escape from Absalom: make speed to depart, lest he
overtake us suddenly, and bring evil upon us, and smite the city with
the edge of the sword. 15 And the king's servants said unto the king,
Behold, thy servants are ready to do whatsoever my lord the king shall
appoint. 16 And the king went forth, and all his household after him.
And the king left ten women, which were concubines, to keep the house.
17 And the king went forth, and all the people after him, and tarried in
a place that was far off. 18 And all his servants passed on beside him;
and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites,
six hundred men which came after him from Gath, passed on before the
king. 19 Then said the king to Ittai the Gittite, Wherefore goest thou
also with us? return to thy place, and abide with the king: for thou art
a stranger, and also an exile. 20 Whereas thou camest but yesterday,
should I this day make thee go up and down with us? seeing I go whither
I may, return thou, and take back thy brethren: mercy and truth be with
thee. 21 And Ittai answered the king, and said, As the Lord liveth, and
as my lord the king liveth, surely in what place my lord the king shall
be, whether in death or life, even there also will thy servant be. 22
And David said to Ittai, Go and pass over. And Ittai the Gittite passed
over, and all his men, and all the little ones that were with him. 23
And all the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people passed
over: the king also himself passed over the brook Kidron, and all the
people passed over, toward the way of the wilderness.

Lesson Acts 15:36. 16:5, 9-15
36 And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas,
Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have
preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do. 37 And Barnabas
determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark. 38 But Paul
thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from
Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work. 39 And the contention was
so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other:
and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus; 40 And Paul chose
Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of
God. 41 And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the
churches.
1 Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold,
a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain
woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek: 2
Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and
Iconium. 3 Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and
circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for
they knew all that his father was a Greek. 4 And as they went through
the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were
ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem. 5 And so
were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number
daily.
9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night;
There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into
Macedonia, and help us. 10 And after he had seen the vision, immediately
we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord
had called us for to preach the gospel unto them. 11 Therefore loosing
from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next
day to Neapolis; 12 And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city
of that part of Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city
abiding certain days. 13 And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a
river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake
unto the women which resorted thither. 14 And a certain woman named
Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped
God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the
things which were spoken of Paul. 15 And when she was baptized, and her
household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful
to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained
us.

Lesson 2 Samuel 6:12-15, 17-19
12 And it was told king David, saying, The Lord
hath blessed the house of Obededom, and all that pertaineth unto him,
because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God
from the house of Obededom into the city of David with gladness. 13 And
it was so, that when they that bare the ark of the Lord had gone six
paces, he sacrificed oxen and fatlings. 14 And David danced before the
Lord with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod. 15 So
David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with
shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.
17 And they brought in the ark of the Lord, and
set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had
pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings
before the Lord. 18 And as soon as David had made an end of offering
burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name
of the Lord of hosts. 19 And he dealt among all the people, even among
the whole multitude of Israel, as well to the women as men, to every one
a cake of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a flagon of wine. So all
the people departed every one to his house.

13 And Pilate, when he had called together the
chief priests and the rulers and the people, 14 Said unto them, Ye have
brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and,
behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this
man touching those things whereof ye accuse him: 15 No, nor yet Herod:
for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto
him. 16 I will therefore chastise him, and release him. 17 (For of
necessity he must release one unto them at the feast.) 18 And they cried
out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us
Barabbas: 19 (Who for a certain sedition made in the city, and for
murder, was cast into prison.) 20 Pilate therefore, willing to release
Jesus, spake again to them. 21 But they cried, saying, Crucify him,
crucify him. 22 And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil
hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore
chastise him, and let him go. 23 And they were instant with loud voices,
requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the
chief priests prevailed. 24 And Pilate gave sentence that it should be
as they required. 25 And he released unto them him that for sedition and
murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered
Jesus to their will.

Lesson Zephaniah 1:2-3, 7, 14-18
2 I will utterly consume all things from off the
land, saith the Lord. 3 I will consume man and beast; I will consume the
fowls of the heaven, and the fishes of the sea, and the stumblingblocks
with the wicked; and I will cut off man from off the land, saith the
Lord.
7 Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord
God: for the day of the Lord is at hand: for the Lord hath prepared a
sacrifice, he hath bid his guests.
14 The great day of the Lord is near, it is
near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the Lord: the
mighty man shall cry there bitterly. 15 That day is a day of wrath, a
day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of
darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, 16 A day of
the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high
towers. 17 And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like
blind men, because they have sinned against the Lord: and their blood
shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung. 18 Neither
their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of
the Lord's wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of
his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that
dwell in the land.

Lesson Romans 12
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the
mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy,
acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not
conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your
mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect,
will of God. 3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man
that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to
think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man
the measure of faith. 4 For as we have many members in one body, and all
members have not the same office: 5 So we, being many, are one body in
Christ, and every one members one of another. 6 Having then gifts
differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy,
let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; 7 Or ministry, let
us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; 8 Or he
that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with
simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with
cheerfulness. 9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is
evil; cleave to that which is good. 10 Be kindly affectioned one to
another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; 11 Not
slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; 12 Rejoicing
in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; 13
Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. 14 Bless
them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. 15 Rejoice with them
that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. 16 Be of the same mind
one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low
estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. 17 Recompense to no man evil
for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. 18 If it be
possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. 19
Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath:
for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. 20
Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink:
for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. 21 Be not
overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

Lesson 2 Samuel 7:1-11, 16-17
1 And it came to pass, when the king sat in his
house, and the Lord had given him rest round about from all his enemies;
2 That the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in an
house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains. 3 And
Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in thine heart; for the Lord
is with thee. 4 And it came to pass that night, that the word of the
Lord came unto Nathan, saying, 5 Go and tell my servant David, Thus
saith the Lord, Shalt thou build me an house for me to dwell in? 6
Whereas I have not dwelt in any house since the time that I brought up
the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked
in a tent and in a tabernacle. 7 In all the places wherein I have walked
with all the children of Israel spake I a word with any of the tribes of
Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people Israel, saying, Why build ye
not me an house of cedar? 8 Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my
servant David, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, I took thee from the
sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over
Israel: 9 And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut
off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name,
like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth. 10 Moreover I
will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that
they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall
the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime, 11 And
as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel,
and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the Lord
telleth thee that he will make thee an house.
16 And thine house and thy kingdom shall be
established forever before thee: thy throne shall be established for
ever. 17 According to all these words, and according to all this vision,
so did Nathan speak unto David.

Lesson Luke 23:26-38
26 And as they led him away, they laid hold upon
one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid
the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus. 27 And there followed him
a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and
lamented him. 28 But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of
Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your
children. 29 For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall
say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps
which never gave suck. 30 Then shall they begin to say to the mountains,
Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us. 31 For if they do these things
in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry? 32 And there were also
two other, malefactors, led with him to be put to death. 33 And when
they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they
crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other
on the left. 34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not
what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots. 35 And the
people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him,
saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the
chosen of God. 36 And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and
offering him vinegar, 37 And saying, If thou be the king of the Jews,
save thyself. 38 And a superscription also was written over him in
letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE
JEWS.

Lesson Zephaniah 3:1-8
1 Woe to her that is filthy and polluted, to the
oppressing city 2 She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction;
she trusted not in the Lord; she drew not near to her God. 3 Her princes
within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they gnaw
not the bones till the morrow. 4 Her prophets are light and treacherous
persons: her priests have polluted the sanctuary, they have done
violence to the law. 5 The just Lord is in the midst thereof; he will
not do iniquity: every morning doth he bring his judgment to light, he
faileth not; but the unjust knoweth no shame. 6 I have cut off the
nations: their towers are desolate; I made their streets waste, that
none passeth by: their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man,
that there is none inhabitant. 7 I said, Surely thou wilt fear me, thou
wilt receive instruction; so their dwelling should not be cut off,
howsoever I punished them: but they rose early, and corrupted all their
doings. 8 Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the Lord, until the day that
I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations,
that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation,
even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the
fire of my jealousy.

Lesson Romans 13
1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher
powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are
ordained of God. 2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth
the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves
damnation. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil.
Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and
thou shalt have praise of the same: 4 For he is the minister of God to
thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he
beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger
to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. 5 Wherefore ye must needs be
subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. 6 For for
this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending
continually upon this very thing. 7 Render therefore to all their dues:
tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom
fear; honour to whom honour. 8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one
another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. 9 For this,
Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not
steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if
there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this
saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 10 Love
worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the
law. 11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake
out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. 12
The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off
the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. 13 Let us
walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in
chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. 14 But put ye on
the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil
the lusts thereof.

Lesson 2 Samuel 7:18
18 Then went king David in, and sat before the
Lord, and he said, Who am I, O Lord God? and what is my house, that thou
hast brought me hitherto? 19 And this was yet a small thing in thy
sight, O Lord God; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant's house for
a great while to come. And is this the manner of man, O Lord God? 20 And
what can David say more unto thee? for thou, Lord God, knowest thy
servant. 21 For thy word's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast
thou done all these great things, to make thy servant know them. 22
Wherefore thou art great, O Lord God: for there is none like thee,
neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have
heard with our ears. 23 And what one nation in the earth is like thy
people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem for a people to
himself, and to make him a name, and to do for you great things and
terrible, for thy land, before thy people, which thou redeemedst to thee
from Egypt, from the nations and their gods? 24 For thou hast confirmed
to thyself thy people Israel to be a people unto thee for ever: and
thou, Lord, art become their God. 25 And now, O Lord God, the word that
thou hast spoken concerning thy servant, and concerning his house,
establish it for ever, and do as thou hast said. 26 And let thy name be
magnified for ever, saying, The Lord of hosts is the God over Israel:
and let the house of thy servant David be established before thee. 27
For thou, O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, hast revealed to thy servant,
saying, I will build thee an house: therefore hath thy servant found in
his heart to pray this prayer unto thee. 28 And now, O Lord God, thou
art that God, and thy words be true, and thou hast promised this
goodness unto thy servant: 29 Therefore now let it please thee to bless
the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee: for
thou, O Lord God, hast spoken it: and with thy blessing let the house of
thy servant be blessed for ever.

Lesson Luke 23:39-49
39 And one of the malefactors which were hanged
railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. 40 But
the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing
thou art in the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly; for we
receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing
amiss. 42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest
into thy kingdom. 43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To
day shalt thou be with me in paradise. 44 And it was about the sixth
hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.
45 And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the
midst. 46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father,
into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the
ghost. 47 Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God,
saying, Certainly this was a righteous man. 48 And all the people that
came together to that sight, beholding the things which were done, smote
their breasts, and returned. 49 And all his acquaintance, and the women
that followed him from Galilee, stood afar off, beholding these
things.

Lesson Zephaniah 3:9
9 For then will I turn to the people a pure
language, that they may all call upon the name of the Lord, to serve him
with one consent. 10 From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia my suppliants,
even the daughter of my dispersed, shall bring mine offering. 11 In that
day shalt thou not be ashamed for all thy doings, wherein thou hast
transgressed against me: for then I will take away out of the midst of
thee them that rejoice in thy pride, and thou shalt no more be haughty
because of my holy mountain. 12 I will also leave in the midst of thee
an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the
Lord. 13 The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies;
neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall
feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid. 14 Sing, O daughter
of Zion; shout, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all the heart, O
daughter of Jerusalem. 15 The Lord hath taken away thy judgments, he
hath cast out thine enemy: the king of Israel, even the Lord, is in the
midst of thee: thou shalt not see evil any more. 16 In that day it shall
be said to Jerusalem, Fear thou not: and to Zion, Let not thine hands be
slack. 17 The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save,
he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will
joy over thee with singing. 18 I will gather them that are sorrowful for
the solemn assembly, who are of thee, to whom the reproach of it was a
burden. 19 Behold, at that time I will undo all that afflict thee: and I
will save her that halteth, and gather her that was driven out; and I
will get them praise and fame in every land where they have been put to
shame. 20 At that time will I bring you again, even in the time that I
gather you: for I will make you a name and a praise among all people of
the earth, when I turn back your captivity before your eyes, saith the
Lord.

Lesson Romans 14:1-12
1 Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but
not to doubtful disputations. 2 For one believeth that he may eat all
things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs. 3 Let not him that eateth
despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him
that eateth: for God hath received him. 4 Who art thou that judgest
another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he
shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand. 5 One man
esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let
every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. 6 He that regardeth the
day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to
the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for
he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not,
and giveth God thanks. 7 For none of us liveth to himself, and no man
dieth to himself. 8 For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and
whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die,
we are the Lord's. 9 For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and
revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living. 10 But why
dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother?
for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. 11 For it is
written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and
every tongue shall confess to God. 12 So then every one of us shall give
account of himself to God.

2 And there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Ziba. And
when they had called him unto David, the king said unto him, Art thou
Ziba? And he said, Thy servant is he. 3 And the king said, Is there not
yet any of the house of Saul, that I may shew the kindness of God unto
him? And Ziba said unto the king, Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame
on his feet. 4 And the king said unto him, Where is he? And Ziba said
unto the king, Behold, he is in the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel,
in Lodebar. 5 Then king David sent, and fetched him out of the house of
Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lodebar. 6 Now when Mephibosheth, the
son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, was come unto David, he fell on his
face, and did reverence. And David said, Mephibosheth. And he answered,
Behold thy servant! 7 And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will
surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father's sake, and will
restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread
at my table continually. 8 And he bowed himself, and said, What is thy
servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am? 9 Then
the king called to Ziba, Saul's servant, and said unto him, I have given
unto thy master's son all that pertained to Saul and to all his
house.
13 So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem: for he
did eat continually at the king's table; and was lame on both his
feet.

Lesson Luke 23:50. Luke 24:12
50 And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a
counsellor; and he was a good man, and a just: 51 (The same had not
consented to the counsel and deed of them;) he was of Arimathaea, a city
of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of God. 52 This man
went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. 53 And he took it down,
and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in
stone, wherein never man before was laid. 54 And that day was the
preparation, and the sabbath drew on. 55 And the women also, which came
with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how
his body was laid. 56 And they returned, and prepared spices and
ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.
1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early
in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which
they had prepared, and certain others with them. 2 And they found the
stone rolled away from the sepulchre. 3 And they entered in, and found
not the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 And it came to pass, as they were much
perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:
5 And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they
said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? 6 He is not here,
but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men,
and be crucified, and the third day rise again. 8 And they remembered
his words, 9 And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things
unto the eleven, and to all the rest. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, and
Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with
them, which told these things unto the apostles. 11 And their words
seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not. 12 Then arose
Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the
linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at
that which was come to pass.

Lesson Ecclesiasticus
(Wisdom of Sirach) 1:1-10
1 All wisdom cometh from the Lord, and is with
him for ever. 2 Who can number the sand of the sea, and the drops of
rain, and the days of eternity? 3 Who can find out the height of heaven,
and the breadth of the earth, and the deep, and wisdom? 4 Wisdom hath
been created before all things, and the understanding of prudence from
everlasting. 5 The word of God most high is the fountain of wisdom; and
her ways are everlasting commandments. 6 To whom hath the root of wisdom
been revealed? or who hath known her wise counsels? 7 [Unto whom hath
the knowledge of wisdom been made manifest? and who hath understood her
great experience?] 8 There is one wise and greatly to be feared, the
Lord sitting upon his throne. 9 He created her, and saw her, and
numbered her, and poured her out upon all his works. 10 She is with all
flesh according to his gift, and he hath given her to them that love
him.

Lesson Romans 14:13
13 Let us not therefore judge one another any
more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an
occasion to fall in his brother's way. 14 I know, and am persuaded by
the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that
esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean. 15 But if thy
brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably.
Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died. 16 Let not then
your good be evil spoken of: 17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and
drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. 18 For
he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and
approved of men. 19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make
for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another. 20 For meat
destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil
for that man who eateth with offence. 21 It is good neither to eat
flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth,
or is offended, or is made weak. 22 Hast thou faith? have it to thyself
before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which
he alloweth. 23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he
eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

Lesson 2 Samuel 11:1-13
1 And it came to pass, after the year was
expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent
Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the
children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at
Jerusalem. 2 And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose
from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from
the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very
beautiful to look upon. 3 And David sent and inquired after the woman.
And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of
Uriah the Hittite? 4 And David sent messengers, and took her; and she
came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her
uncleanness: and she returned unto her house. 5 And the woman conceived,
and sent and told David, and said, I am with child. 6 And David sent to
Joab, saying, Send me Uriah the Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah to David. 7
And when Uriah was come unto him, David demanded of him how Joab did,
and how the people did, and how the war prospered. 8 And David said to
Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out
of the king's house, and there followed him a mess of meat from the
king. 9 But Uriah slept at the door of the king's house with all the
servants of his lord, and went not down to his house. 10 And when they
had told David, saying, Uriah went not down unto his house, David said
unto Uriah, Camest thou not from thy journey? why then didst thou not go
down unto thine house? 11 And Uriah said unto David, The ark, and
Israel, and Judah, abide in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of
my lord, are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into mine
house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? as thou livest, and
as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing. 12 And David said to
Uriah, Tarry here today also, and tomorrow I will let thee depart. So
Uriah abode in Jerusalem that day, and the morrow. 13 And when David had
called him, he did eat and drink before him; and he made him drunk: and
at even he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but
went not down to his house.

13 And, behold, two of them went that same day
to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore
furlongs. 14 And they talked together of all these things which had
happened. 15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and
reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them. 16 But their eyes
were holden that they should not know him. 17 And he said unto them,
What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as
ye walk, and are sad? 18 And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas,
answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast
not known the things which are come to pass there in these days? 19 And
he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus
of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and
all the people: 20 And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered
him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him. 21 But we trusted
that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all
this, to day is the third day since these things were done. 22 Yea, and
certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early
at the sepulchre; 23 And when they found not his body, they came,
saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he
was alive. 24 And certain of them which were with us went to the
sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw
not. 25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe
all that the prophets have spoken: 26 Ought not Christ to have suffered
these things, and to enter into his glory? 27 And beginning at Moses and
all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the
things concerning himself. 28 And they drew nigh unto the village,
whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further. 29
But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward
evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them. 30
And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and
blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. 31 And their eyes were opened,
and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. 32 And they said
one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with
us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures? 33 And they
rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven
gathered together, and them that were with them, 34 Saying, The Lord is
risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon. 35 And they told what things
were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of
bread.

Lesson Ecclesiasticus
(Wisdom of Sirach). 1:11-20, 26-27
11 The fear of the Lord is honour, and glory,
and gladness, and a crown of rejoicing. 12 The fear of the Lord maketh a
merry heart, and giveth joy, and gladness, and a long life. 13 Whoso
feareth the Lord, it shall go well with him at the last, and he shall
find favour in the day of his death. 14 To fear the Lord is the
beginning of wisdom: and it was created with the faithful in the womb.
15 She hath built an everlasting foundation with men, and she shall
continue with their seed. 16 To fear the Lord is fulness of wisdom, and
filleth men with her fruits. 17 She filleth all their house with things
desirable, and the garners with her increase. 18 The fear of the Lord is
a crown of wisdom, making peace and perfect health to flourish; both
which are the gifts of God: and it enlargeth their rejoicing that love
him. 19 Wisdom raineth down skill and knowledge of understanding
standing, and exalteth them to honour that hold her fast. 20 The root of
wisdom is to fear the Lord, and the branches thereof are long life.
26 If thou desire wisdom, keep the commandments,
and the Lord shall give her unto thee. 27 For the fear of the Lord is
wisdom and instruction: and faith and meekness are his delight.

Lesson Romans 15:1-16
1 We then that are strong ought to bear the
infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. 2 Let every one of
us please his neighbour for his good to edification. 3 For even Christ
pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that
reproached thee fell on me. 4 For whatsoever things were written
aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and
comfort of the scriptures might have hope. 5 Now the God of patience and
consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to
Christ Jesus: 6 That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God,
even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 7 Wherefore receive ye one
another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God. 8 Now I say
that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of
God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers: 9 And that the
Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this
cause I will confess to thee among the Gentiles, and sing unto thy name.
10 And again he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people. 11 And
again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and laud him, all ye people. 12
And again, Esaias saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that
shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust.
13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing,
that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. 14 And
I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye also are full of
goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.
15 Nevertheless, brethren, I have written the more boldly unto you in
some sort, as putting you in mind, because of the grace that is given to
me of God, 16 That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the
Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the
Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost.

Lesson 2 Samuel 11:14
14 And it came to pass in the morning, that
David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah. 15 And
he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the
hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die.
16 And it came to pass, when Joab observed the city, that he assigned
Uriah unto a place where he knew that valiant men were. 17 And the men
of the city went out, and fought with Joab: and there fell some of the
people of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite died also. 18
Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war; 19 And
charged the messenger, saying, When thou hast made an end of telling the
matters of the war unto the king, 20 And if so be that the king's wrath
arise, and he say unto thee, Wherefore approached ye so nigh unto the
city when ye did fight? knew ye not that they would shoot from the wall?
21 Who smote Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? did not a woman cast a
piece of a millstone upon him from the wall, that he died in Thebez? why
went ye nigh the wall? then say thou, Thy servant Uriah the Hittite is
dead also. 22 So the messenger went, and came and shewed David all that
Joab had sent him for. 23 And the messenger said unto David, Surely the
men prevailed against us, and came out unto us into the field, and we
were upon them even unto the entering of the gate. 24 And the shooters
shot from off the wall upon thy servants; and some of the king's
servants be dead, and thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also. 25
Then David said unto the messenger, Thus shalt thou say unto Joab, Let
not this thing displease thee, for the sword devoureth one as well as
another: make thy battle more strong against the city, and overthrow it:
and encourage thou him. 26 And when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah
her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband. 27 And when the
mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she
became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done
displeased the Lord.

spirit. 38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do
thoughts arise in your hearts? 39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it
is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones,
as ye see me have. 40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his
hands and his feet. 41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and
wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat? 42 And they gave him
a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. 43 And he took it, and
did eat before them. 44 And he said unto them, These are the words which
I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be
fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets,
and in the psalms, concerning me. 45 Then opened he their understanding,
that they might understand the scriptures, 46 And said unto them, Thus
it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from
the dead the third day: 47 And that repentance and remission of sins
should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at
Jerusalem. 48 And ye are witnesses of these things. 49 And, behold, I
send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of
Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. 50 And he led
them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed
them. 51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from
them, and carried up into heaven. 52 And they worshipped him, and
returned to Jerusalem with great joy: 53 And were continually in the
temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.

Lesson Ecclesiasticus
(Wisdom of Sirach). 2
1 My son, if thou come to serve the Lord,
prepare thy soul for temptation. 2 Set thy heart aright, and constantly
endure, and make not haste in time of trouble. 3 Cleave unto him, and
depart not away, that thou mayest be increased at thy last end. 4
Whatsoever is brought upon thee take cheerfully, and be patient when
thou art changed to a low estate. 5 For gold is tried in the fire, and
acceptable men in the furnace of adversity. 6 Believe in him, and he
will help thee; order thy way aright, and trust in him. 7 Ye that fear
the Lord, wait for his mercy; and go not aside, lest ye fall. 8 Ye that
fear the Lord, believe him; and your reward shall not fail. 9 Ye that
fear the Lord, hope for good, and for everlasting joy and mercy. 10 Look
at the generations of old, and see; did ever any trust in the Lord, and
was confounded? or did any abide in his fear, and was forsaken? or whom
did he ever despise, that called upon him? 11 For the Lord is full of
compassion and mercy, longsuffering, and very pitiful, and forgiveth
sins, and saveth in time of affliction. 12 Woe be to fearful hearts, and
faint hands, and the sinner that goeth two ways! 13 Woe unto him that is
fainthearted! for he believeth not; therefore shall he not be defended.
14 Woe unto you that have lost patience! and what will ye do when the
Lord shall visit you? 15 They that fear the Lord will not disobey his
Word; and they that love him will keep his ways. 16 They that fear the
Lord will seek that which is well, pleasing unto him; and they that love
him shall be filled with the law. 17 They that fear the Lord will
prepare their hearts, and humble their souls in his sight, 18 Saying, We
will fall into the hands of the Lord, and not into the hands of men: for
as his majesty is, so is his mercy.

Lesson Romans 15:17
17 I have therefore whereof I may glory through
Jesus Christ in those things which pertain to God. 18 For I will not
dare to speak of any of those things which Christ hath not wrought by
me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed, 19 Through mighty
signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from
Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the
gospel of Christ. 20 Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel, not
where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man's
foundation: 21 But as it is written, To whom he was not spoken of, they
shall see: and they that have not heard shall understand. 22 For which
cause also I have been much hindered from coming to you. 23 But now
having no more place in these parts, and having a great desire these
many years to come unto you; 24 Whensoever I take my journey into Spain,
I will come to you: for I trust to see you in my journey, and to be
brought on my way thitherward by you, if first I be somewhat filled with
your company. 25 But now I go unto Jerusalem to minister unto the
saints. 26 For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a
certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem. 27 It
hath pleased them verily; and their debtors they are. For if the
Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, their duty
is also to minister unto them in carnal things. 28 When therefore I have
performed this, and have sealed to them this fruit, I will come by you
into Spain. 29 And I am sure that, when I come unto you, I shall come in
the fulness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ. 30 Now I beseech
you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the
Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me;
31 That I may be delivered from them that do not believe in Judaea; and
that my service which I have for Jerusalem may be accepted of the
saints; 32 That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may
with you be refreshed. 33 Now the God of peace be with you all.
Amen.
