Second Sunday after Trinity Morning Prayer Sunday
1st Lesson Job 31:13-28
13 If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant,
when they contended with me; 14 What then shall I do when God riseth up?
and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him? 15 Did not he that made
me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb? 16 If I
have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the
widow to fail; 17 Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the
fatherless hath not eaten thereof; 18 (For from my youth he was brought
up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother's
womb;) 19 If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor
without covering; 20 If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were
not warmed with the fleece of my sheep; 21 If I have lifted up my hand
against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate: 22 Then let mine
arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.
23 For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his
highness I could not endure. 24 If I have made gold my hope, or have
said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence; 25 If I rejoiced because
my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much; 26 If I
beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness; 27 And
my heart hath been secretly enticed, or my mouth hath kissed my hand: 28
This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judge: for I should
have denied the God that is above.

2nd Lesson 1 Corinthians 13
1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not
charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2 And
though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and
all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove
mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all
my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and
have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. 4 Charity suffereth long, and
is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed
up, 5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not
easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but
rejoiceth in the truth; 7 Beareth all things, believeth all things,
hopeth all things, endureth all things. 8 Charity never faileth: but
whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues,
they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. 9
For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is
perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. 11 When
I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as
a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now
we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in
part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. 13 And now abideth
faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is
charity.

1st Lesson Deuteronomy 20:1-9
1 When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest
horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of
them: for the Lord thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of
the land of Egypt. 2 And it shall be, when ye are come nigh unto the
battle, that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people, 3 And
shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle
against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not
tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them; 4 For the Lord your
God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to
save you. 5 And the officers shall speak unto the people, saying, What
man is there that hath built a new house, and hath not dedicated it? let
him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another
man dedicate it. 6 And what man is he that hath planted a vineyard, and
hath not yet eaten of it? let him also go and return unto his house,
lest he die in the battle, and another man eat of it. 7 And what man is
there that hath betrothed a wife, and hath not taken her? let him go and
return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take
her. 8 And the officers shall speak further unto the people, and they
shall say, What man is there that is fearful and fainthearted? let him
go and return unto his house, lest his brethren's heart faint as well as
his heart. 9 And it shall be, when the officers have made an end of
speaking unto the people, that they shall make captains of the armies to
lead the people.

2nd Lesson Luke 9:57
57 And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man
said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. 58 And
Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests;
but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. 59 And he said unto
another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my
father. 60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go
thou and preach the kingdom of God. 61 And another also said, Lord, I
will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at
home at my house. 62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his
hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

1st Lesson Genesis 6:5-8, 13-22
5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and
that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil
continually. 6 And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the
earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7 And the Lord said, I will
destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man,
and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it
repenteth me that I have made them. 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes
of the Lord.
13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me;
for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will
destroy them with the earth. 14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms
shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with
pitch. 15 And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The
length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty
cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. 16 A window shalt thou make
to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of
the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and
third stories shalt thou make it. 17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a
flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the
breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth
shall die. 18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt
come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives
with thee. 19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort
shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall
be male and female. 20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after
their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of
every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive. 21 And take thou
unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee;
and it shall be for food for thee, and for them. 22 Thus did Noah;
according to all that God commanded him, so did he.

32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet
tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: 33 So
likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near,
even at the doors. 34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not
pass, till all these things be fulfilled. 35 Heaven and earth shall pass
away, but my words shall not pass away. 36 But of that day and hour
knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. 37 But
as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and
drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe
entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, and took
them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 40 Then
shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and
the other left. 42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord
doth come.

Prayer Sunday
1st Lesson 1 Samuel 20:1-7, 12-42
1 And David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and came and said before
Jonathan, What have I done? what is mine iniquity? and what is my sin
before thy father, that he seeketh my life? 2 And he said unto him, God
forbid; thou shalt not die: behold, my father will do nothing either
great or small, but that he will shew it me: and why should my father
hide this thing from me? it is not so. 3 And David sware moreover, and
said, Thy father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thine
eyes; and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but
truly as the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step
between me and death. 4 Then said Jonathan unto David, Whatsoever thy
soul desireth, I will even do it for thee. 5 And David said unto
Jonathan, Behold, tomorrow is the new moon, and I should not fail to sit
with the king at meat: but let me go, that I may hide myself in the
field unto the third day at even. 6 If thy father at all miss me, then
say, David earnestly asked leave of me that he might run to Bethlehem
his city: for there is a yearly sacrifice there for all the family. 7 If
he say thus, It is well; thy servant shall have peace: but if he be very
wroth, then be sure that evil is determined by him.
12 And Jonathan said unto David, O Lord God of
Israel, when I have sounded my father about tomorrow any time, or the
third day, and, behold, if there be good toward David, and I then send
not unto thee, and shew it thee; 13 The Lord do so and much more to
Jonathan: but if it please my father to do thee evil, then I will shew
it thee, and send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace: and the Lord
be with thee, as he hath been with my father. 14 And thou shalt not only
while yet I live shew me the kindness of the Lord, that I die not: 15
But also thou shalt not cut off thy kindness from my house for ever: no,
not when the Lord hath cut off the enemies of David every one from the
face of the earth. 16 So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of
David, saying, Let the Lord even require it at the hand of David's
enemies. 17 And Jonathan caused David to swear again, because he loved
him: for he loved him as he loved his own soul. 18 Then Jonathan said to
David, Tomorrow is the new moon: and thou shalt be missed, because thy
seat will be empty. 19 And when thou hast stayed three days, then thou
shalt go down quickly, and come to the place where thou didst hide
thyself when the business was in hand, and shalt remain by the stone
Ezel. 20 And I will shoot three arrows on the side thereof, as though I
shot at a mark. 21 And, behold, I will send a lad, saying, Go, find out
the arrows. If I expressly say unto the lad, Behold, the arrows are on
this side of thee, take them; then come thou: for there is peace to
thee, and no hurt; as the Lord liveth. 22 But if I say thus unto the
young man, Behold, the arrows are beyond thee; go thy way: for the Lord
hath sent thee away. 23 And as touching the matter which thou and I have
spoken of, behold, the Lord be between thee and me for ever. 24 So David
hid himself in the field: and when the new moon was come, the king sat
him down to eat meat. 25 And the king sat upon his seat, as at other
times, even upon a seat by the wall: and Jonathan arose, and Abner sat
by Saul's side, and David's place was empty. 26 Nevertheless Saul spake
not any thing that day: for he thought, Something hath befallen him, he
is not clean; surely he is not clean. 27 And it came to pass on the
morrow, which was the second day of the month, that David's place was
empty: and Saul said unto Jonathan his son, Wherefore cometh not the son
of Jesse to meat, neither yesterday, nor today? 28 And Jonathan answered
Saul, David earnestly asked leave of me to go to Bethlehem: 29 And he
said, Let me go, I pray thee; for our family hath a sacrifice in the
city; and my brother, he hath commanded me to be there: and now, if I
have found favour in thine eyes, let me get away, I pray thee, and see
my brethren. Therefore he cometh not unto the king's table. 30 Then
Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said unto him, Thou
son of the perverse rebellious woman, do not I know that thou hast
chosen the son of Jesse to thine own confusion, and unto the confusion
of thy mother's nakedness? 31 For as long as the son of Jesse liveth
upon the ground, thou shalt not be established, nor thy kingdom.
Wherefore now send and fetch him unto me, for he shall surely die. 32
And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said unto him, Wherefore
shall he be slain? what hath he done? 33 And Saul cast a javelin at him
to smite him: whereby Jonathan knew that it was determined of his father
to slay David. 34 So Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and
did eat no meat the second day of the month: for he was grieved for
David, because his father had done him shame. 35 And it came to pass in
the morning, that Jonathan went out into the field at the time appointed
with David, and a little lad with him. 36 And he said unto his lad, Run,
find out now the arrows which I shoot. And as the lad ran, he shot an
arrow beyond him. 37 And when the lad was come to the place of the arrow
which Jonathan had shot, Jonathan cried after the lad, and said, Is not
the arrow beyond thee? 38 And Jonathan cried after the lad, Make speed,
haste, stay not. And Jonathan's lad gathered up the arrows, and came to
his master. 39 But the lad knew not any thing: only Jonathan and David
knew the matter. 40 And Jonathan gave his artillery unto his lad, and
said unto him, Go, carry them to the city. 41 And as soon as the lad was
gone, David arose out of a place toward the south, and fell on his face
to the ground, and bowed himself three times: and they kissed one
another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded. 42 And
Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, forasmuch as we have sworn both of
us in the name of the Lord, saying, The Lord be between me and thee, and
between my seed and thy seed for ever. And he arose and departed: and
Jonathan went into the city.

Lesson 1 Peter 1:17
17 And if ye call on the Father, who without
respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time
of your sojourning here in fear: 18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were
not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain
conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the
precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but
was manifest in these last times for you, 21 Who by him do believe in
God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your
faith and hope might be in God. 22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in
obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the
brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: 23
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the
word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. 24 For all flesh is as
grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass
withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: 25 But the word of the
Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is
preached unto you.

Lesson 2 Kings 4:8-17
8 And it fell on a day, that Elisha passed to
Shunem, where was a great woman; and she constrained him to eat bread.
And so it was, that as oft as he passed by, he turned in thither to eat
bread. 9 And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this
is an holy man of God, which passeth by us continually. 10 Let us make a
little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us set for him there a
bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick: and it shall be, when
he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither. 11 And it fell on a day,
that he came thither, and he turned into the chamber, and lay there. 12
And he said to Gehazi his servant, Call this Shunammite. And when he had
called her, she stood before him. 13 And he said unto him, Say now unto
her, Behold, thou hast been careful for us with all this care; what is
to be done for thee? wouldest thou be spoken for to the king, or to the
captain of the host? And she answered, I dwell among mine own people. 14
And he said, What then is to be done for her? And Gehazi answered,
Verily she hath no child, and her husband is old. 15 And he said, Call
her. And when he had called her, she stood in the door. 16 And he said,
About this season, according to the time of life, thou shalt embrace a
son. And she said, Nay, my lord, thou man of God, do not lie unto thine
handmaid. 17 And the woman conceived, and bare a son at that season that
Elisha had said unto her, according to the time of life.

Lesson Luke 14:12-24
12 Then said he also to him that bade him, When
thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy
brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also
bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee. 13 But when thou makest a
feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: 14 And thou shalt
be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be
recompensed at the resurrection of the just. 15 And when one of them
that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed
is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God. 16 Then said he unto
him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: 17 And sent his
servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all
things are now ready. 18 And they all with one consent began to make
excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I
must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. 19 And another
said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray
thee have me excused. 20 And another said, I have married a wife, and
therefore I cannot come. 21 So that servant came, and shewed his lord
these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his
servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and
bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.
22 And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and
yet there is room. 23 And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into
the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may
be filled. 24 For I say unto you, That none of those men which were
bidden shall taste of my supper.

Lesson 1 Samuel 3:1-18
1 And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord
before Eli. And the word of the Lord was precious in those days; there
was no open vision. 2 And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was
laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not
see; 3 And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the Lord, where
the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep; 4 That the Lord
called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I. 5 And he ran unto Eli, and
said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie
down again. And he went and lay down. 6 And the Lord called yet again,
Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou
didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again. 7
Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, neither was the word of the Lord
yet revealed unto him. 8 And the Lord called Samuel again the third
time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst
call me. And Eli perceived that the Lord had called the child. 9
Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he
call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, Lord; for thy servant heareth. So
Samuel went and lay down in his place. 10 And the Lord came, and stood,
and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered,
Speak; for thy servant heareth. 11 And the Lord said to Samuel, Behold,
I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that
heareth it shall tingle. 12 In that day I will perform against Eli all
things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will
also make an end. 13 For I have told him that I will judge his house for
ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves
vile, and he restrained them not. 14 And therefore I have sworn unto the
house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be purged with
sacrifice nor offering for ever. 15 And Samuel lay until the morning,
and opened the doors of the house of the Lord. And Samuel feared to shew
Eli the vision. 16 Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And
he answered, Here am I. 17 And he said, What is the thing that the Lord
hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide it not from me: God do so to thee,
and more also, if thou hide any thing from me of all the things that he
said unto thee. 18 And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from
him. And he said, It is the Lord: let him do what seemeth him good.

Lesson Acts 7:44. 8:4
44 Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in
the wilderness, as he had appointed, speaking unto Moses, that he should
make it according to the fashion that he had seen. 45 Which also our
fathers that came after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the
Gentiles, whom God drave out before the face of our fathers, unto the
days of David; 46 Who found favour before God, and desired to find a
tabernacle for the God of Jacob. 47 But Solomon built him an house. 48
Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith
the prophet, 49 Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what
house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest?
50 Hath not my hand made all these things? 51 Ye stiffnecked and
uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as
your fathers did, so do ye. 52 Which of the prophets have not your
fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the
coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and
murderers: 53 Who have received the law by the disposition of angels,
and have not kept it. 54 When they heard these things, they were cut to
the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth. 55 But he, being
full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the
glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, 56 And said,
Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the
right hand of God. 57 Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped
their ears, and ran upon him with one accord, 58 And cast him out of the
city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a
young man's feet, whose name was Saul. 59 And they stoned Stephen,
calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. 60 And he
kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to
their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
1 And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at
that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at
Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of
Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles. 2 And devout men carried
Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him. 3 As for
Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and
haling men and women committed them to prison. 4 Therefore they that
were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.

Lesson Joshua 1
1 Now after the death of Moses the servant of
the Lord it came to pass, that the Lord spake unto Joshua the son of
Nun, Moses' minister, saying, 2 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore
arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land
which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel. 3 Every place
that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you,
as I said unto Moses. 4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto
the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and
unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your
coast. 5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the
days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will
not fail thee, nor forsake thee. 6 Be strong and of a good courage: for
unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I
sware unto their fathers to give them. 7 Only be thou strong and very
courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law,
which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right
hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.
8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt
meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according
to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way
prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. 9 Have not I
commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither
be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou
goest. 10 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying, 11
Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you
victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in
to possess the land, which the Lord your God giveth you to possess it.
12 And to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of
Manasseh, spake Joshua, saying, 13 Remember the word which Moses the
servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, The Lord your God hath given
you rest, and hath given you this land. 14 Your wives, your little ones,
and your cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this
side Jordan; but ye shall pass before your brethren armed, all the
mighty men of valour, and help them; 15 Until the Lord have given your
brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the
land which the Lord your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the
land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the Lord's servant
gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising. 16 And they answered
Joshua, saying, All that thou commandest us we will do, and
whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go. 17 According as we hearkened
unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only the Lord
thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses. 18 Whosoever he be that doth
rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in
all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong
and of a good courage.

Lesson Luke 4:42. 5:11
42 And when it was day, he departed and went
into a desert place: and the people sought him, and came unto him, and
stayed him, that he should not depart from them. 43 And he said unto
them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for
therefore am I sent. 44 And he preached in the synagogues of
Galilee.
1 And it came to pass, that, as the people
pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of
Gennesaret, 2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen
were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. 3 And he entered
into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would
thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the
people out of the ship. 4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto
Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. 5
And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night,
and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the
net. 6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of
fishes: and their net brake. 7 And they beckoned unto their partners,
which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And
they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. 8 When
Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from
me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. 9 For he was astonished, and all that
were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: 10 And
so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners
with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou
shalt catch men. 11 And when they had brought their ships to land, they
forsook all, and followed him.

Lesson Ezra 7:1, 6-16, 25-28
1 Now after these things, in the reign of
Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra the son of Seraiah, the son of Azariah,
the son of Hilkiah,
6 This Ezra went up from Babylon; and he was a
ready scribe in the law of Moses, which the Lord God of Israel had
given: and the king granted him all his request, according to the hand
of the Lord his God upon him. 7 And there went up some of the children
of Israel, and of the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the
porters, and the Nethinims, unto Jerusalem, in the seventh year of
Artaxerxes the king. 8 And he came to Jerusalem in the fifth month,
which was in the seventh year of the king. 9 For upon the first day of
the first month began he to go up from Babylon, and on the first day of
the fifth month came he to Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his
God upon him. 10 For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the
Lord, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments. 11
Now this is the copy of the letter that the king Artaxerxes gave unto
Ezra the priest, the scribe, even a scribe of the words of the
commandments of the Lord, and of his statutes to Israel. 12 Artaxerxes,
king of kings, unto Ezra the priest, a scribe of the law of the God of
heaven, perfect peace, and at such a time. 13 I make a decree, that all
they of the people of Israel, and of his priests and Levites, in my
realm, which are minded of their own freewill to go up to Jerusalem, go
with thee. 14 Forasmuch as thou art sent of the king, and of his seven
counsellors, to inquire concerning Judah and Jerusalem, according to the
law of thy God which is in thine hand; 15 And to carry the silver and
gold, which the king and his counsellors have freely offered unto the
God of Israel, whose habitation is in Jerusalem, 16 And all the silver
and gold that thou canst find in all the province of Babylon, with the
freewill offering of the people, and of the priests, offering willingly
for the house of their God which is in Jerusalem:
25 And thou, Ezra, after the wisdom of thy God,
that is in thine hand, set magistrates and judges, which may judge all
the people that are beyond the river, all such as know the laws of thy
God; and teach ye them that know them not. 26 And whosoever will not do
the law of thy God, and the law of the king, let judgment be executed
speedily upon him, whether it be unto death, or to banishment, or to
confiscation of goods, or to imprisonment. 27 Blessed be the Lord God of
our fathers, which hath put such a thing as this in the king's heart, to
beautify the house of the Lord which is in Jerusalem: 28 And hath
extended mercy unto me before the king, and his counsellors, and before
all the king's mighty princes. And I was strengthened as the hand of the
Lord my God was upon me, and I gathered together out of Israel chief men
to go up with me.

Lesson Acts 11:1-18
1 And the apostles and brethren that were in
Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God. 2 And
when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision
contended with him, 3 Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and
didst eat with them. 4 But Peter rehearsed the matter from the
beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying, 5 I was in the
city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, A certain vessel
descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four
corners; and it came even to me: 6 Upon the which when I had fastened
mine eyes, I considered, and saw fourfooted beasts of the earth, and
wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. 7 And I heard a
voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat. 8 But I said, Not so,
Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my
mouth. 9 But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath
cleansed, that call not thou common. 10 And this was done three times:
and all were drawn up again into heaven. 11 And, behold, immediately
there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from
Caesarea unto me. 12 And the spirit bade me go with them, nothing
doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered
into the man's house: 13 And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in
his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call
for Simon, whose surname is Peter; 14 Who shall tell thee words, whereby
thou and all thy house shall be saved. 15 And as I began to speak, the
Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. 16 Then remembered I
the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water;
but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. 17 Forasmuch then as God
gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord
Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God? 18 When they heard
these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then
hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

Lesson Joshua 3:1-6, 13-17
1 And Joshua rose early in the morning; and they
removed from Shittim, and came to Jordan, he and all the children of
Israel, and lodged there before they passed over. 2 And it came to pass
after three days, that the officers went through the host; 3 And they
commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the
Lord your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall
remove from your place, and go after it. 4 Yet there shall be a space
between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near
unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not
passed this way heretofore. 5 And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify
yourselves: for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you. 6 And
Joshua spake unto the priests, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant,
and pass over before the people. And they took up the ark of the
covenant, and went before the people.
13 And it shall come to pass, as soon as the
soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the Lord, the Lord
of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of
Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and
they shall stand upon an heap. 14 And it came to pass, when the people
removed from their tents, to pass over Jordan, and the priests bearing
the ark of the covenant before the people; 15 And as they that bare the
ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark
were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his
banks all the time of harvest,) 16 That the waters which came down from
above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that
is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain,
even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over
right against Jericho. 17 And the priests that bare the ark of the
covenant of the Lord stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan,
and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people
were passed clean over Jordan.

Lesson Luke 5:12-26
12 And it came to pass, when he was in a certain
city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face,
and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
13 And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou
clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him. 14 And he charged
him to tell no man: but go, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer
for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto
them. 15 But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great
multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their
infirmities. 16 And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.
17 And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there
were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of
every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the
Lord was present to heal them. 18 And, behold, men brought in a bed a
man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in,
and to lay him before him. 19 And when they could not find by what way
they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the
housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the
midst before Jesus. 20 And when he saw their faith, he said unto him,
Man, thy sins are forgiven thee. 21 And the scribes and the Pharisees
began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can
forgive sins, but God alone? 22 But when Jesus perceived their thoughts,
he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts? 23 Whether
is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and
walk? 24 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth
to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee,
Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house. 25 And
immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and
departed to his own house, glorifying God. 26 And they were all amazed,
and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen
strange things to day.

Lesson Ezra 8:15a, 21-23, 31-36
15 And I gathered them together to the river
that runneth to Ahava; and there abode we in tents three days: and I
viewed the people, and the priests, and found there none of the sons of
Levi.
21 Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river
of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him
a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.
22 For I was ashamed to require of the king a band of soldiers and
horsemen to help us against the enemy in the way: because we had spoken
unto the king, saying, The hand of our God is upon all them for good
that seek him; but his power and his wrath is against all them that
forsake him. 23 So we fasted and besought our God for this: and he was
entreated of us.
31 Then we departed from the river of Ahava on
the twelfth day of the first month, to go unto Jerusalem: and the hand
of our God was upon us, and he delivered us from the hand of the enemy,
and of such as lay in wait by the way. 32 And we came to Jerusalem, and
abode there three days. 33 Now on the fourth day was the silver and the
gold and the vessels weighed in the house of our God by the hand of
Meremoth the son of Uriah the priest; and with him was Eleazar the son
of Phinehas; and with them was Jozabad the son of Jeshua, and Noadiah
the son of Binnui, Levites; 34 By number and by weight of every one: and
all the weight was written at that time. 35 Also the children of those
that had been carried away, which were come out of the captivity,
offered burnt offerings unto the God of Israel, twelve bullocks for all
Israel, ninety and six rams, seventy and seven lambs, twelve he goats
for a sin offering: all this was a burnt offering unto the Lord. 36 And
they delivered the king's commissions unto the king's lieutenants, and
to the governors on this side the river: and they furthered the people,
and the house of God.

Lesson Acts 11:19
19 Now they which were scattered abroad upon the
persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and
Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only.
20 And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were
come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus. 21
And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and
turned unto the Lord. 22 Then tidings of these things came unto the ears
of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that
he should go as far as Antioch. 23 Who, when he came, and had seen the
grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of
heart they would cleave unto the Lord. 24 For he was a good man, and
full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the
Lord. 25 Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul: 26 And when
he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that
a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much
people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch. 27
And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch. 28 And
there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the spirit
that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came
to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar. 29 Then the disciples, every man
according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren
which dwelt in Judaea: 30 Which also they did, and sent it to the elders
by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.

1 And it came to pass, when all the people were
clean passed over Jordan, that the Lord spake unto Joshua, saying, 2
Take you twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man, 3 And
command ye them, saying, Take you hence out of the midst of Jordan, out
of the place where the priests' feet stood firm, twelve stones, and ye
shall carry them over with you, and leave them in the lodging place,
where ye shall lodge this night. 4 Then Joshua called the twelve men,
whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, out of every tribe a
man: 5 And Joshua said unto them, Pass over before the ark of the Lord
your God into the midst of Jordan, and take you up every man of you a
stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the
children of Israel: 6 That this may be a sign among you, that when your
children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by
these stones? 7 Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan
were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord; when it passed
over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall
be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever. 8 And the
children of Israel did so as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones
out of the midst of Jordan, as the Lord spake unto Joshua, according to
the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, and carried them
over with them unto the place where they lodged, and laid them down
there.

And Levi made him a great feast in his own house: and there was a great

scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye
eat and drink with publicans and sinners? 31 And Jesus answering said
unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are
sick. 32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. 33
And they said unto him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and
make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but thine eat
and drink? 34 And he said unto them, Can ye make the children of the
bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? 35 But the days
will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then
shall they fast in those days. 36 And he spake also a parable unto them;
No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then
both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new
agreeth not with the old. 37 And no man putteth new wine into old
bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and
the bottles shall perish. 38 But new wine must be put into new bottles;
and both are preserved. 39 No man also having drunk old wine straightway
desireth new: for he saith, The old is better.

Lesson Nehemiah 1
1 The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah.
And it came to pass in the month Chisleu, in the twentieth year, as I
was in Shushan the palace, 2 That Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he
and certain men of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had
escaped, which were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem. 3
And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there
in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of
Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with
fire. 4 And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down
and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the
God of heaven, 5 And said, I beseech thee, O Lord God of heaven, the
great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that
love him and observe his commandments: 6 Let thine ear now be attentive,
and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant,
which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel
thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we
have sinned against thee: both I and my father's house have sinned. 7 We
have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the
commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou
commandedst thy servant Moses. 8 Remember, I beseech thee, the word that
thou commandedst thy servant Moses, saying, If ye transgress, I will
scatter you abroad among the nations: 9 But if ye turn unto me, and keep
my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the
uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and
will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there.
10 Now these are thy servants and thy people, whom thou hast redeemed by
thy great power, and by thy strong hand. 11 O Lord, I beseech thee, let
now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the
prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and prosper, I pray
thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this
man. For I was the king's cupbearer.

Lesson Acts 12:1-24
1 Now about that time Herod the king stretched
forth his hands to vex certain of the church. 2 And he killed James the
brother of John with the sword. 3 And because he saw it pleased the
Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of
unleavened bread.) 4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in
prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him;
intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people. 5 Peter
therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the
church unto God for him. 6 And when Herod would have brought him forth,
the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two
chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison. 7 And, behold,
the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison:
and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up
quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. 8 And the angel said
unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he
saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me. 9 And he
went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done
by the angel; but thought he saw a vision. 10 When they were past the
first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth
unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went
out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed
from him. 11 And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of
a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out
of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the
Jews. 12 And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of
Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were
gathered together praying. 13 And as Peter knocked at the door of the
gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda. 14 And when she knew
Peter's voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and
told how Peter stood before the gate. 15 And they said unto her, Thou
art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said
they, It is his angel. 16 But Peter continued knocking: and when they
had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished. 17 But he,
beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto
them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go
shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and
went into another place. 18 Now as soon as it was day, there was no
small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter. 19 And when
Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers,
and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from
Judaea to Caesarea, and there abode. 20 And Herod was highly displeased
with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and,
having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, desired peace;
because their country was nourished by the king's country. 21 And upon a
set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made
an oration unto them. 22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the
voice of a god, and not of a man. 23 And immediately the angel of the
Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of
worms, and gave up the ghost. 24 But the word of God grew and
multiplied.

Lesson Joshua 6:1-7, 11, 14-20
1 Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of
the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in. 2 And the Lord
said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the
king thereof, and the mighty men of valour. 3 And ye shall compass the
city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt
thou do six days. 4 And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven
trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city
seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets. 5 And it
shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's
horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall
shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat,
and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him. 6 And
Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said unto them, Take up
the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of
rams' horns before the ark of the Lord. 7 And he said unto the people,
Pass on, and compass the city, and let him that is armed pass on before
the ark of the Lord.
11 So the ark of the Lord compassed the city,
going about it once: and they came into the camp, and lodged in the
camp.
14 And the second day they compassed the city
once, and returned into the camp: so they did six days. 15 And it came
to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of
the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only
on that day they compassed the city seven times. 16 And it came to pass
at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua
said unto the people, Shout; for the Lord hath given you the city. 17
And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to
the Lord: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with
her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent. 18 And
ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make
yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the
camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it. 19 But all the silver, and gold,
and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the Lord: they shall
come into the treasury of the Lord. 20 So the people shouted when the
priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people
heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great
shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the
city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.

Lesson Luke 6:1-11
1 And it came to pass on the second sabbath
after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples
plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands. 2
And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do ye that which is not
lawful to do on the sabbath days? 3 And Jesus answering them said, Have
ye not read so much as this, what David did, when himself was an
hungred, and they which were with him; 4 How he went into the house of
God, and did take and eat the shewbread, and gave also to them that were
with him; which it is not lawful to eat but for the priests alone? 5 And
he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. 6
And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the
synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered.
7 And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on
the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him. 8 But
he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand,
Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth. 9
Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the
sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?
10 And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch
forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the
other. 11 And they were filled with madness; and communed one with
another what they might do to Jesus.

1 And it came to pass in the month Nisan, in the
twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that wine was before him: and I
took up the wine, and gave it unto the king. Now I had not been
beforetime sad in his presence. 2 Wherefore the king said unto me, Why
is thy countenance sad, seeing thou art not sick? this is nothing else
but sorrow of heart. Then I was very sore afraid, 3 And said unto the
king, Let the king live for ever: why should not my countenance be sad,
when the city, the place of my fathers' sepulchres, lieth waste, and the
gates thereof are consumed with fire? 4 Then the king said unto me, For
what dost thou make request? So I prayed to the God of heaven. 5 And I
said unto the king, If it please the king, and if thy servant have found
favour in thy sight, that thou wouldest send me unto Judah, unto the
city of my fathers' sepulchres, that I may build it. 6 And the king said
unto me, (the queen also sitting by him,) For how long shall thy journey
be? and when wilt thou return? So it pleased the king to send me; and I
set him a time. 7 Moreover I said unto the king, If it please the king,
let letters be given me to the governors beyond the river, that they may
convey me over till I come into Judah; 8 And a letter unto Asaph the
keeper of the king's forest, that he may give me timber to make beams
for the gates of the palace which appertained to the house, and for the
wall of the city, and for the house that I shall enter into. And the
king granted me, according to the good hand of my God upon me.

Lesson Acts 12:25. 13:12
25 And Barnabas and Saul returned from
Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministry, and took with them
John, whose surname was Mark.
1 Now there were in the church that was at
Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was
called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought
up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. 2 As they ministered to the Lord,
and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the
work whereunto I have called them. 3 And when they had fasted and
prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away. 4 So they,
being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from
thence they sailed to Cyprus. 5 And when they were at Salamis, they
preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had
also John to their minister. 6 And when they had gone through the isle
unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew,
whose name was Bar-jesus: 7 Which was with the deputy of the country,
Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and
desired to hear the word of God. 8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is
his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the
deputy from the faith. 9 Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled
with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him, 10 And said, O full of all
subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all
righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the
Lord? 11 And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou
shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there
fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to
lead him by the hand. 12 Then the deputy, when he saw what was done,
believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.

Lesson Joshua 14:6
6 Then the children of Judah came unto Joshua in
Gilgal: and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite said unto him, Thou
knowest the thing that the Lord said unto Moses the man of God
concerning me and thee in Kadeshbarnea. 7 Forty years old was I when
Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadeshbarnea to espy out the
land; and I brought him word again as it was in mine heart. 8
Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the
people melt: but I wholly followed the Lord my God. 9 And Moses sware on
that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shall be
thine inheritance, and thy children's for ever, because thou hast wholly
followed the Lord my God. 10 And now, behold, the Lord hath kept me
alive, as he said, these forty and five years, even since the Lord spake
this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the
wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old. 11
As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me:
as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go
out, and to come in. 12 Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the
Lord spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims
were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the Lord
will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the Lord
said. 13 And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of
Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance. 14 Hebron therefore became the
inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day,
because that he wholly followed the Lord God of Israel. 15 And the name
of Hebron before was Kirjatharba; which Arba was a great man among the
Anakims. And the land had rest from war.

Lesson Luke 6:12-26
12 And it came to pass in those days, that he
went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to
God. 13 And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of
them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles; 14 Simon, (whom he
also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and
Bartholomew, 15 Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon
called Zelotes, 16 And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot,
which also was the traitor. 17 And he came down with them, and stood in
the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of
people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre
and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases;
18 And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed.
19 And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue
out of him, and healed them all. 20 And he lifted up his eyes on his
disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of
God. 21 Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed
are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh. 22 Blessed are ye, when men
shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and
shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's
sake. 23 Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your
reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto
the prophets. 24 But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received
your consolation. 25 Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger.
Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep. 26 Woe unto
you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to
the false prophets.

Lesson Nehemiah 2:9
9 Then I came to the governors beyond the river,
and gave them the king's letters. Now the king had sent captains of the
army and horsemen with me. 10 When Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah
the servant, the Ammonite, heard of it, it grieved them exceedingly that
there was come a man to seek the welfare of the children of Israel. 11
So I came to Jerusalem, and was there three days. 12 And I arose in the
night, I and some few men with me; neither told I any man what my God
had put in my heart to do at Jerusalem: neither was there any beast with
me, save the beast that I rode upon. 13 And I went out by night by the
gate of the valley, even before the dragon well, and to the dung port,
and viewed the walls of Jerusalem, which were broken down, and the gates
thereof were consumed with fire. 14 Then I went on to the gate of the
fountain, and to the king's pool: but there was no place for the beast
that was under me to pass. 15 Then went I up in the night by the brook,
and viewed the wall, and turned back, and entered by the gate of the
valley, and so returned. 16 And the rulers knew not whither I went, or
what I did; neither had I as yet told it to the Jews, nor to the
priests, nor to the nobles, nor to the rulers, nor to the rest that did
the work. 17 Then said I unto them, Ye see the distress that we are in,
how Jerusalem lieth waste, and the gates thereof are burned with fire:
come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we be no more a
reproach. 18 Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon
me; as also the king's words that he had spoken unto me. And they said,
Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good
work. 19 But when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the
Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard it, they laughed us to scorn,
and despised us, and said, What is this thing that ye do? will ye rebel
against the king? 20 Then answered I them, and said unto them, The God
of heaven, he will prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and
build: but ye have no portion, nor right, nor memorial, in
Jerusalem.

Lesson Acts 13:13-25
13 Now when Paul and his company loosed from
Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them
returned to Jerusalem. 14 But when they departed from Perga, they came
to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day,
and sat down. 15 And after the reading of the law and the prophets the
rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if
ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on. 16 Then Paul
stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that
fear God, give audience. 17 The God of this people of Israel chose our
fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land
of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it. 18 And about
the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness. 19
And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he
divided their land to them by lot. 20 And after that he gave unto them
judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the
prophet. 21 And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them
Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of
forty years. 22 And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them
David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have
found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall
fulfil all my will. 23 Of this man's seed hath God according to his
promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus: 24 When John had first
preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people
of Israel. 25 And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye
that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose
shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.

Lesson Joshua 23:1-3, 11-16
1 And it came to pass a long time after that the
Lord had given rest unto Israel from all their enemies round about, that
Joshua waxed old and stricken in age. 2 And Joshua called for all
Israel, and for their elders, and for their heads, and for their judges,
and for their officers, and said unto them, I am old and stricken in
age: 3 And ye have seen all that the Lord your God hath done unto all
these nations because of you; for the Lord your God is he that hath
fought for you.
11 Take good heed therefore unto yourselves,
that ye love the Lord your God. 12 Else if ye do in any wise go back,
and cleave unto the remnant of these nations, even these that remain
among you, and shall make marriages with them, and go in unto them, and
they to you: 13 Know for a certainty that the Lord your God will no more
drive out any of these nations from before you; but they shall be snares
and traps unto you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes,
until ye perish from off this good land which the Lord your God hath
given you. 14 And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth:
and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing
hath failed of all the good things which the Lord your God spake
concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing hath
failed thereof. 15 Therefore it shall come to pass, that as all good
things are come upon you, which the Lord your God promised you; so shall
the Lord bring upon you all evil things, until he have destroyed you
from off this good land which the Lord your God hath given you. 16 When
ye have transgressed the covenant of the Lord your God, which he
commanded you, and have gone and served other gods, and bowed yourselves
to them; then shall the anger of the Lord be kindled against you, and ye
shall perish quickly from off the good land which he hath given unto
you.

Lesson Luke 6:27-38
27 But I say unto you which hear, Love your
enemies, do good to them which hate you, 28 Bless them that curse you,
and pray for them which despitefully use you. 29 And unto him that
smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh
away thy cloke forbid not to take thy coat also. 30 Give to every man
that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not
again. 31 And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them
likewise. 32 For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for
sinners also love those that love them. 33 And if ye do good to them
which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the
same. 34 And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank
have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again. 35
But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing
again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of
the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. 36 Be
ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. 37 Judge not,
and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned:
forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: 38 Give, and it shall be given unto
you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over,
shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete
withal it shall be measured to you again.

Lesson Nehemiah 4:6
6 So built we the wall; and all the wall was
joined together unto the half thereof: for the people had a mind to
work. 7 But it came to pass, that when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the
Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls of
Jerusalem were made up, and that the breaches began to be stopped, then
they were very wroth, 8 And conspired all of them together to come and
to fight against Jerusalem, and to hinder it. 9 Nevertheless we made our
prayer unto our God, and set a watch against them day and night, because
of them. 10 And Judah said, The strength of the bearers of burdens is
decayed, and there is much rubbish; so that we are not able to build the
wall. 11 And our adversaries said, They shall not know, neither see,
till we come in the midst among them, and slay them, and cause the work
to cease. 12 And it came to pass, that when the Jews which dwelt by them
came, they said unto us ten times, From all places whence ye shall
return unto us they will be upon you. 13 Therefore set I in the lower
places behind the wall, and on the higher places, I even set the people
after their families with their swords, their spears, and their bows. 14
And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers,
and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the
Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your
sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses. 15 And it came to
pass, when our enemies heard that it was known unto us, and God had
brought their counsel to nought, that we returned all of us to the wall,
every one unto his work. 16 And it came to pass from that time forth,
that the half of my servants wrought in the work, and the other half of
them held both the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the
habergeons; and the rulers were behind all the house of Judah. 17 They
which builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that
laded, every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the
other hand held a weapon. 18 For the builders, every one had his sword
girded by his side, and so builded. And he that sounded the trumpet was
by me. 19 And I said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest
of the people, The work is great and large, and we are separated upon
the wall, one far from another. 20 In what place therefore ye hear the
sound of the trumpet, resort ye thither unto us: our God shall fight for
us. 21 So we laboured in the work: and half of them held the spears from
the rising of the morning till the stars appeared. 22 Likewise at the
same time said I unto the people, Let every one with his servant lodge
within Jerusalem, that in the night they may be a guard to us, and
labour on the day. 23 So neither I, nor my brethren, nor my servants,
nor the men of the guard which followed me, none of us put off our
clothes, saving that every one put them off for washing.

Lesson Acts 13:26-43
26 Men and brethren, children of the stock of
Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this
salvation sent. 27 For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers,
because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are
read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him. 28
And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate
that he should be slain. 29 And when they had fulfilled all that was
written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a
sepulchre. 30 But God raised him from the dead: 31 And he was seen many
days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are
his witnesses unto the people. 32 And we declare unto you glad tidings,
how that the promise which was made unto the fathers, 33 God hath
fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up
Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son,
this day have I begotten thee. 34 And as concerning that he raised him
up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this
wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David. 35 Wherefore he saith
also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see
corruption. 36 For David, after he had served his own generation by the
will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw
corruption: 37 But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption. 38 Be
it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is
preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: 39 And by him all that
believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be
justified by the law of Moses. 40 Beware therefore, lest that come upon
you, which is spoken of in the prophets; 41 Behold, ye despisers, and
wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye
shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you. 42 And when
the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that
these words might be preached to them the next sabbath. 43 Now when the
congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes
followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to
continue in the grace of God.
