Prayer Sunday
1st Lesson Ecclesiastes 2:1-11,
18-23
1 I said in mine heart, Go to now, I will prove thee with mirth,
therefore enjoy pleasure: and, behold, this also is vanity. 2 I said of
laughter, It is mad: and of mirth, What doeth it? 3 I sought in mine
heart to give myself unto wine, yet acquainting mine heart with wisdom;
and to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was that good for the
sons of men, which they should do under the heaven all the days of their
life. 4 I made me great works; I builded me houses; I planted me
vineyards: 5 I made me gardens and orchards, and I planted trees in them
of all kind of fruits: 6 I made me pools of water, to water therewith
the wood that bringeth forth trees: 7 I got me servants and maidens, and
had servants born in my house; also I had great possessions of great and
small cattle above all that were in Jerusalem before me: 8 I gathered me
also silver and gold, and the peculiar treasure of kings and of the
provinces: I gat me men singers and women singers, and the delights of
the sons of men, as musical instruments, and that of all sorts. 9 So I
was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusalem:
also my wisdom remained with me. 10 And whatsoever mine eyes desired I
kept not from them, I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart
rejoiced in all my labour: and this was my portion of all my labour. 11
Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the
labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and
vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun.
18
Yea, I hated all my labour which I had taken under the sun: because I
should leave it unto the man that shall be after me. 19 And who knoweth
whether he shall be a wise man or a fool? yet shall he have rule over
all my labour wherein I have laboured, and wherein I have shewed myself
wise under the sun. This is also vanity. 20 Therefore I went about to
cause my heart to despair of all the labour which I took under the sun.
21 For there is a man whose labour is in wisdom, and in knowledge, and
in equity; yet to a man that hath not laboured therein shall he leave it
for his portion. This also is vanity and a great evil. 22 For what hath
man of all his labour, and of the vexation of his heart, wherein he hath
laboured under the sun? 23 For all his days are sorrows, and his travail
grief; yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night. This is also
vanity.

Lesson Matthew 19:16
16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good
Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? 17 And
he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one,
that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou
shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear
false witness, 19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love
thy neighbour as thyself. 20 The young man saith unto him, All these
things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? 21 Jesus said unto
him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to
the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow
me. 22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful:
for he had great possessions. 23 Then said Jesus unto his disciples,
Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the
kingdom of heaven. 24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel
to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the
kingdom of God. 25 When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly
amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? 26 But Jesus beheld them, and
said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are
possible. 27 Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have
forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? 28 And
Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed
me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of
his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve
tribes of Israel. 29 And every one that hath forsaken houses, or
brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or
lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall
inherit everlasting life. 30 But many that are first shall be last; and
the last shall be first.

Lesson Proverbs 15:1-10, 26
1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous
words stir up anger. 2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright:
but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness. 3 The eyes of the Lord
are in every place, beholding the evil and the good. 4 A wholesome
tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the
spirit. 5 A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that
regardeth reproof is prudent. 6 In the house of the righteous is much
treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble. 7 The lips of
the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.
8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord: but the
prayer of the upright is his delight. 9 The way of the wicked is an
abomination unto the Lord: but he loveth him that followeth after
righteousness. 10 Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the
way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.
26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination
to the Lord: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.

Lesson James 3
1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that
we shall receive the greater condemnation. 2 For in many things we
offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man,
and able also to bridle the whole body. 3 Behold, we put bits in the
horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole
body. 4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are
driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small
helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. 5 Even so the tongue is a
little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a
little fire kindleth! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity:
so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and
setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. 7
For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things
in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: 8 But the tongue
can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9
Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men,
which are made after the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth
proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so
to be. 11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and
bitter? 12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a
vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh. 13 Who
is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a
good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. 14 But if ye have
bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against
the truth. 15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly,
sensual, devilish. 16 For where envying and strife is, there is
confusion and every evil work. 17 But the wisdom that is from above is
first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of
mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. 18 And
the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

Lesson Genesis 17:1-8
1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine,
the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God;
walk before me, and be thou perfect. 2 And I will make my covenant
between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly. 3 And Abram
fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying, 4 As for me, behold,
my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations. 5
Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be
Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. 6 And I will
make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings
shall come out of thee. 7 And I will establish my covenant between me
and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting
covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee. 8 And I
will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou
art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession;
and I will be their God.

Lesson Hebrews 11:1-16
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped
for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a
good report. 3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed
by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of
things which do appear. 4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more
excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was
righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet
speaketh. 5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death;
and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his
translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. 6 But without
faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must
believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently
seek him. 7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as
yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the
which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which
is by faith. 8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a
place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he
went out, not knowing whither he went. 9 By faith he sojourned in the
land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with
Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: 10 For he
looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is
God. 11 Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive
seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she
judged him faithful who had promised. 12 Therefore sprang there even of
one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in
multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable. 13
These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having
seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and
confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. 14 For
they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. 15
And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they
came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. 16 But now
they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not
ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a
city.

Lesson Proverbs 3:1-7, 11-12
1 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart
keep my commandments; 2 For length of days, and long life, and peace,
shall they add to thee. 3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind
them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: 4 So
shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and
man. 5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine
own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall
direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and
depart from evil.
11 My son, despise not the chastening of the
Lord; neither be weary of his correction: 12 For whom the Lord loveth he
correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

Lesson Luke 14:25
25 And there went great multitudes with him: and
he turned, and said unto them, 26 If any man come to me, and hate not
his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and
sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. 27 And
whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my
disciple. 28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not
down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish
it? 29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to
finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, 30 Saying, This man
began to build, and was not able to finish. 31 Or what king, going to
make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth
whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him
with twenty thousand? 32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way
off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace. 33 So
likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he
cannot be my disciple. 34 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his

Lesson Judges 6:11-23
11 And there came an angel of the Lord, and sat
under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the
Abiezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide
it from the Midianites. 12 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him,
and said unto him, The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour. 13
And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the Lord be with us, why then
is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers
told us of, saying, Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt? but now the
Lord hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the
Midianites. 14 And the Lord looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy
might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have
not I sent thee? 15 And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I
save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least
in my father's house. 16 And the Lord said unto him, Surely I will be
with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man. 17 And he
said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy sight, then shew me a
sign that thou talkest with me. 18 Depart not hence, I pray thee, until
I come unto thee, and bring forth my present, and set it before thee.
And he said, I will tarry until thou come again. 19 And Gideon went in,
and made ready a kid, and unleavened cakes of an ephah of flour: the
flesh he put in a basket, and he put the broth in a pot, and brought it
out unto him under the oak, and presented it. 20 And the angel of God
said unto him, Take the flesh and the unleavened cakes, and lay them
upon this rock, and pour out the broth. And he did so. 21 Then the angel
of the Lord put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and
touched the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and there rose up fire out
of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes. Then the
angel of the Lord departed out of his sight. 22 And when Gideon
perceived that he was an angel of the Lord, Gideon said, Alas, O Lord
God! for because I have seen an angel of the Lord face to face. 23 And
the Lord said unto him, Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not
die.

Lesson Luke 5:1-11
1 And it came to pass, that, as the people
pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of
Gennesaret, 2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen
were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. 3 And he entered
into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would
thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the
people out of the ship. 4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto
Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. 5
And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night,
and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the
net. 6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of
fishes: and their net brake. 7 And they beckoned unto their partners,
which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And
they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. 8 When
Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from
me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. 9 For he was astonished, and all that
were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: 10 And
so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners
with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou
shalt catch men. 11 And when they had brought their ships to land, they
forsook all, and followed him.

Lesson 1 Samuel 11
1 Then Nahash the Ammonite came up, and encamped
against Jabeshgilead: and all the men of Jabesh said unto Nahash, Make a
covenant with us, and we will serve thee. 2 And Nahash the Ammonite
answered them, On this condition will I make a covenant with you, that I
may thrust out all your right eyes, and lay it for a reproach upon all
Israel. 3 And the elders of Jabesh said unto him, Give us seven days'
respite, that we may send messengers unto all the coasts of Israel: and
then, if there be no man to save us, we will come out to thee. 4 Then
came the messengers to Gibeah of Saul, and told the tidings in the ears
of the people: and all the people lifted up their voices, and wept. 5
And, behold, Saul came after the herd out of the field; and Saul said,
What aileth the people that they weep? And they told him the tidings of
the men of Jabesh. 6 And the spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard
those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly. 7 And he took a yoke
of oxen, and hewed them in pieces, and sent them throughout all the
coasts of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, Whosoever cometh
not forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done unto his
oxen. And the fear of the Lord fell on the people, and they came out
with one consent. 8 And when he numbered them in Bezek, the children of
Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty
thousand. 9 And they said unto the messengers that came, Thus shall ye
say unto the men of Jabeshgilead, Tomorrow, by that time the sun be hot,
ye shall have help. And the messengers came and shewed it to the men of
Jabesh; and they were glad. 10 Therefore the men of Jabesh said,
Tomorrow we will come out unto you, and ye shall do with us all that
seemeth good unto you. 11 And it was so on the morrow, that Saul put the
people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the host in
the morning watch, and slew the Ammonites until the heat of the day: and
it came to pass, that they which remained were scattered, so that two of
them were not left together. 12 And the people said unto Samuel, Who is
he that said, Shall Saul reign over us? bring the men, that we may put
them to death. 13 And Saul said, There shall not a man be put to death
this day: for today the Lord hath wrought salvation in Israel. 14 Then
said Samuel to the people, Come, and let us go to Gilgal, and renew the
kingdom there. 15 And all the people went to Gilgal; and there they made
Saul king before the Lord in Gilgal; and there they sacrificed
sacrifices of peace offerings before the Lord; and there Saul and all
the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.

Lesson Acts 9:1-20
1 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and
slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,
2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he
found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring
them bound unto Jerusalem. 3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus:
and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: 4 And he
fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why
persecutest thou me? 5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord
said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick
against the pricks. 6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what
wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into
the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. 7 And the men
which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing
no man. 8 And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened,
he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into
Damascus. 9 And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor
drink. 10 And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias;
and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am
here, Lord. 11 And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street
which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judas for one
called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth, 12 And hath seen in a
vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that
he might receive his sight. 13 Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard
by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at
Jerusalem: 14 And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind
all that call on thy name. 15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way:
for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles,
and kings, and the children of Israel: 16 For I will shew him how great
things he must suffer for my name's sake. 17 And Ananias went his way,
and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother
Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou
camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be
filled with the Holy Ghost. 18 And immediately there fell from his eyes
as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and
was baptized. 19 And when he had received meat, he was strengthened.
Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus. 20
And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son
of God.

Lesson Ruth 2:1-13
1 And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband's, a
mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz.
2 And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field,
and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And
she said unto her, Go, my daughter. 3 And she went, and came, and
gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her hap was to light on a
part of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the kindred of
Elimelech. 4 And, behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said unto the
reapers, The Lord be with you. And they answered him, The Lord bless
thee. 5 Then said Boaz unto his servant that was set over the reapers,
Whose damsel is this? 6 And the servant that was set over the reapers
answered and said, It is the Moabitish damsel that came back with Naomi
out of the country of Moab: 7 And she said, I pray you, let me glean and
gather after the reapers among the sheaves: so she came, and hath
continued even from the morning until now, that she tarried a little in
the house. 8 Then said Boaz unto Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go
not to glean in another field, neither go from hence, but abide here
fast by my maidens: 9 Let thine eyes be on the field that they do reap,
and go thou after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall
not touch thee? and when thou art athirst, go unto the vessels, and
drink of that which the young men have drawn. 10 Then she fell on her
face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, Why have I
found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me,
seeing I am a stranger? 11 And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath
fully been shewed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law
since the death of thine husband: and how thou hast left thy father and
thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people
which thou knewest not heretofore. 12 The Lord recompense thy work, and
a full reward be given thee of the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings
thou art come to trust. 13 Then she said, Let me find favour in thy
sight, my lord; for that thou hast comforted me, and for that thou hast
spoken friendly unto thine handmaid, though I be not like unto one of
thine handmaidens.

Lesson Luke 9:46
46 Then there arose a reasoning among them,
which of them should be greatest. 47 And Jesus, perceiving the thought
of their heart, took a child, and set him by him, 48 And said unto them,
Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and
whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is
least among you all, the same shall be great. 49 And John answered and
said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad
him, because he followeth not with us. 50 And Jesus said unto him,
Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us. 51 And it came
to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he
stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem, 52 And sent messengers
before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the
Samaritans, to make ready for him. 53 And they did not receive him,
because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem. 54 And when his
disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we
command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias
did? 55 But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what
manner of spirit ye are of. 56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy
men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village. 57 And
it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto
him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. 58 And Jesus
said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but
the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. 59 And he said unto
another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my
father. 60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go
thou and preach the kingdom of God. 61 And another also said, Lord, I
will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at
home at my house. 62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his
hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

Lesson 1 Maccabess
3:1-9
1 Then his son Judas, called Maccabeus, rose up
in his stead. 2 And all his brethren helped him, and so did all they
that held with his father, and they fought with cheerfulness the battle
of Israel. 3 So he gat his people great honour, and put on a breastplate
as a giant, and girt his warlike harness about him, and he made battles,
protecting the host with his sword. 4 In his acts he was like a lion,
and like a lion's whelp roaring for his prey. 5 For He pursued the
wicked, and sought them out, and burnt up those that vexed his people. 6
Wherefore the wicked shrunk for fear of him, and all the workers of
iniquity were troubled, because salvation prospered in his hand. 7 He
grieved also many kings, and made Jacob glad with his acts, and his
memorial is blessed for ever. 8 Moreover he went through the cities of
Juda, destroying the ungodly out of them, and turning away wrath from
Israel: 9 So that he was renowned unto the utmost part of the earth, and
he received unto him such as were ready to perish.

Lesson Acts 18:1-11
1 After these things Paul departed from Athens,
and came to Corinth; 2 And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in
Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that
Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto
them. 3 And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and
wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers. 4 And he reasoned
in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks. 5
And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed
in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ. 6 And
when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and
said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: from
henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles. 7 And he departed thence, and
entered into a certain man's house, named Justus, one that worshipped
God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue. 8 And Crispus, the chief
ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and
many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized. 9 Then
spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but
speak, and hold not thy peace: 10 For I am with thee, and no man shall
set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city. 11 And he
continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among
them.

Lesson Ruth 2:14
14 And Boaz said unto her, At mealtime come thou
hither, and eat of the bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar. And she
sat beside the reapers: and he reached her parched corn, and she did
eat, and was sufficed, and left. 15 And when she was risen up to glean,
Boaz commanded his young men, saying, Let her glean even among the
sheaves, and reproach her not: 16 And let fall also some of the handfuls
of purpose for her, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke
her not. 17 So she gleaned in the field until even, and beat out that
she had gleaned: and it was about an ephah of barley. 18 And she took it
up, and went into the city: and her mother in law saw what she had
gleaned: and she brought forth, and gave to her that she had reserved
after she was sufficed. 19 And her mother in law said unto her, Where
hast thou gleaned today? and where wroughtest thou? blessed be he that
did take knowledge of thee. And she shewed her mother in law with whom
she had wrought, and said, The man's name with whom I wrought today is
Boaz. 20 And Naomi said unto her daughter in law, Blessed be he of the
Lord, who hath not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead.
And Naomi said unto her, The man is near of kin unto us, one of our next
kinsmen. 21 And Ruth the Moabitess said, He said unto me also, Thou
shalt keep fast by my young men, until they have ended all my harvest.
22 And Naomi said unto Ruth her daughter in law, It is good, my
daughter, that thou go out with his maidens, that they meet thee not in
any other field. 23 So she kept fast by the maidens of Boaz to glean
unto the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest; and dwelt with her
mother in law.

Lesson Luke 10:1-24
1 After these things the Lord appointed other
seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city
and place, whither he himself would come. 2 Therefore said he unto them,
The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore
the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his
harvest. 3 Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.
4 Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the
way. 5 And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this
house. 6 And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon
it: if not, it shall turn to you again. 7 And in the same house remain,
eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy
of his hire. Go not from house to house. 8 And into whatsoever city ye
enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you: 9
And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of
God is come nigh unto you. 10 But into whatsoever city ye enter, and
they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and
say, 11 Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do
wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the
kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. 12 But I say unto you, that it
shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city. 13
Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty
works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they
had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. 14 But
it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for
you. 15 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be
thrust down to hell. 16 He that heareth you heareth me; and he that
despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that
sent me. 17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even
the devils are subject unto us through thy name. 18 And he said unto
them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. 19 Behold, I give
unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the
power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. 20
Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto
you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven. 21 In
that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father,
Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise
and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so
it seemed good in thy sight. 22 All things are delivered to me of my
Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the
Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him. 23 And
he turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the
eyes which see the things that ye see: 24 For I tell you, that many
prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and
have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not
heard them.

Lesson 1 Maccabees
3:42-54
42 Now when Judas and his brethren saw that
miseries were multiplied, and that the forces did encamp themselves in
their borders: for they knew how the king had given commandment to
destroy the people, and utterly abolish them; 43 They said one to
another, Let us restore the decayed fortune of our people, and let us
fight for our people and the sanctuary. 44 Then was the congregation
gathered together, that they might be ready for battle, and that they
might pray, and ask mercy and compassion. 45 Now Jerusalem lay void as a
wilderness, there was none of her children that went in or out: the
sanctuary also was trodden down, and aliens kept the strong hold; the
heathen had their habitation in that place; and joy was taken from
Jacob, and the pipe with the harp ceased. 46 Wherefore the Israelites
assembled themselves together, and came to Maspha, over against
Jerusalem; for in Maspha was the place where they prayed aforetime in
Israel. 47 Then they fasted that day, and put on sackcloth, and cast
ashes upon their heads, and rent their clothes, 48 And laid open the
book of the law, wherein the heathen had sought to paint the likeness of
their images. 49 They brought also the priests' garments, and the
firstfruits, and the tithes: and the Nazarites they stirred up, who had
accomplished their days. 50 Then cried they with a loud voice toward
heaven, saying, What shall we do with these, and whither shall we carry
them away? 51 For thy sanctuary is trodden down and profaned, and thy
priests are in heaviness, and brought low. 52 And lo, the heathen are
assembled together against us to destroy us: what things they imagine
against us, thou knowest. 53 How shall we be able to stand against them,
except thou, O God, be our help? 54 Then sounded they with trumpets, and
cried with a loud voice.

Lesson Acts 18:12-23
12 And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia, the
Jews made insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to
the judgment seat, 13 Saying, This fellow persuadeth men to worship God
contrary to the law. 14 And when Paul was now about to open his mouth,
Gallio said unto the Jews, If it were a matter of wrong or wicked
lewdness, O ye Jews, reason would that I should bear with you: 15 But if
it be a question of words and names, and of your law, look ye to it; for
I will be no judge of such matters. 16 And he drave them from the
judgment seat. 17 Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the chief ruler of
the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. And Gallio cared
for none of those things. 18 And Paul after this tarried there yet a
good while, and then took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence
into Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn his head in
Cenchrea: for he had a vow. 19 And he came to Ephesus, and left them
there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the
Jews. 20 When they desired him to tarry longer time with them, he
consented not; 21 But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means
keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return again unto
you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus. 22 And when he had landed
at Caesarea, and gone up, and saluted the church, he went down to
Antioch. 23 And after he had spent some time there, he departed, and
went over all the country of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening
all the disciples.

1 Then Naomi her mother in law said unto her, My
daughter, shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee?
2 And now is not Boaz of our kindred, with whose maidens thou wast?
Behold, he winnoweth barley tonight in the threshingfloor. 3 Wash thy
self therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment upon thee, and get
thee down to the floor: but make not thyself known unto the man, until
he shall have done eating and drinking. 4 And it shall be, when he lieth
down, that thou shalt mark the place where he shall lie, and thou shalt
go in, and uncover his feet, and lay thee down; and he will tell thee
what thou shalt do. 5 And she said unto her, All that thou sayest unto
me I will do. 6 And she went down unto the floor, and did according to
all that her mother in law bade her. 7 And when Boaz had eaten and
drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the
heap of corn: and she came softly, and uncovered his feet, and laid her
down. 8 And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and
turned himself: and, behold, a woman lay at his feet. 9 And he said, Who
art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid: spread therefore
thy skirt over thine handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman. 10 And he
said, Blessed be thou of the Lord, my daughter: for thou hast shewed
more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as thou
followedst not young men, whether poor or rich. 11 And now, my daughter,
fear not; I will do to thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of
my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman. 12 And now it is
true that I am thy near kinsman: howbeit there is a kinsman nearer than
I. 13 Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will
perform unto thee the part of a kinsman, well; let him do the kinsman's
part: but if he will not do the part of a kinsman to thee, then will I
do the part of a kinsman to thee, as the Lord liveth: lie down until the
morning.

Lesson Luke 10:25-37
25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and
tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? 26
He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? 27 And
he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart,
and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind;
and thy neighbour as thyself. 28 And he said unto him, Thou hast
answered right: this do, and thou shalt live. 29 But he, willing to
justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour? 30 And Jesus
answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and
fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him,
and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 And by chance there came down a
certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other
side. 32 And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and
looked on him, and passed by on the other side. 33 But a certain
Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he
had compassion on him, 34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds,
pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him
to an inn, and took care of him. 35 And on the morrow when he departed,
he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him,
Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again,
I will repay thee. 36 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was
neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? 37 And he said, He that
shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou
likewise.

Lesson 1 Maccabess
4:36-51
36 Then said Judas and his brethren, Behold, our
enemies are discomfited: let us go up to cleanse and dedicate the
sanctuary. 37 Upon this all the host assembled themselves together, and
went up into mount Sion. 38 And when they saw the sanctuary desolate,
and the altar profaned, and the gates burned up, and shrubs growing in
the courts as in a forest, or in one of the mountains, yea, and the
priests' chambers pulled down; 39 They rent their clothes, and made
great lamentation, and cast ashes upon their heads, 40 And fell down
flat to the ground upon their faces, and blew an alarm with the
trumpets, and cried toward heaven. 41 Then Judas appointed certain men
to fight against those that were in the fortress, until he had cleansed
the sanctuary. 42 So he chose priests of blameless conversation, such as
had pleasure in the law: 43 Who cleansed the sanctuary, and bare out the
defiled stones into an unclean place. 44 And when as they consulted what
to do with the altar of burnt offerings, which was profaned; 45 They
thought it best to pull it down, lest it should be a reproach to them,
because the heathen had defiled it: wherefore they pulled it down, 46
And laid up the stones in the mountain of the temple in a convenient
place, until there should come a prophet to shew what should be done
with them. 47 Then they took whole stones according to the law, and
built a new altar according to the former; 48 And made up the sanctuary,
and the things that were within the temple, and hallowed the courts. 49
They made also new holy vessels, and into the temple they brought the
candlestick, and the altar of burnt offerings, and of incense, and the
table. 50 And upon the altar they burned incense, and the lamps that
were upon the candlestick they lighted, that they might give light in
the temple. 51 Furthermore they set the loaves upon the table, and
spread out the veils, and finished all the works which they had begun to
make.

Lesson Acts 18:24-19:7
24 And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at
Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to
Ephesus. 25 This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being
fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the
Lord, knowing only the baptism of John. 26 And he began to speak boldly
in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took
him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly. 27
And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote,
exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped
them much which had believed through grace: 28 For he mightily convinced
the Jews, and that publickly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was
Christ.
1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was
at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus:
and finding certain disciples, 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the
Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so
much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. 3 And he said unto them,
Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. 4
Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance,
saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should
come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5 When they heard this, they
were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid
his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with
tongues, and prophesied. 7 And all the men were about twelve.

Lesson Ruth 4:1-8
1 Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him
down there: and, behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spake came by; unto
whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. And he turned
aside, and sat down. 2 And he took ten men of the elders of the city,
and said, Sit ye down here. And they sat down. 3 And he said unto the
kinsman, Naomi, that is come again out of the country of Moab, selleth a
parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech's: 4 And I thought to
advertise thee, saying, Buy it before the inhabitants, and before the
elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem it, redeem it: but if thou wilt
not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know: for there is none to
redeem it beside thee; and I am after thee. And he said, I will redeem
it. 5 Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of
Naomi, thou must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the
dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance. 6 And the
kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar mine own
inheritance: redeem thou my right to thyself; for I cannot redeem it. 7
Now this was the manner in former time in Israel concerning redeeming
and concerning changing, for to confirm all things; a man plucked off
his shoe, and gave it to his neighbour: and this was a testimony in
Israel. 8 Therefore the kinsman said unto Boaz, Buy it for thee. So he
drew off his shoe.

Lesson Luke 10:38-11:13
38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he
entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha
received him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, which
also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. 40 But Martha was cumbered
about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care
that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she
help me. 41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou
art careful and troubled about many things: 42 But one thing is needful:
and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from
her.
1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying
in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him,
Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. 2 And he said
unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed
be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in
earth. 3 Give us day by day our daily bread. 4 And forgive us our sins;
for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not
into temptation; but deliver us from evil. 5 And he said unto them,
Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and
say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves; 6 For a friend of mine in
his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him? 7 And
he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now
shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee. 8
I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his
friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many
as he needeth. 9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you;
seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10 For
every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him
that knocketh it shall be opened. 11 If a son shall ask bread of any of
you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish,
will he for a fish give him a serpent? 12 Or if he shall ask an egg,
will he offer him a scorpion? 13 If ye then, being evil, know how to
give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly
Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Lesson 1 Maccabess,
4:52
52 Now on the five and twentieth day of the
ninth month, which is called the month Casleu, in the hundred forty and
eighth year, they rose up betimes in the morning, 53 And offered
sacrifice according to the law upon the new altar of burnt offerings,
which they had made. 54 Look, at what time and what day the heathen had
profaned it, even in that was it dedicated with songs, and citherns, and
harps, and cymbals. 55 Then all the people fell upon their faces,
worshipping and praising the God of heaven, who had given them good
success. 56 And so they kept the dedication of the altar eight days and
offered burnt offerings with gladness, and sacrificed the sacrifice of
deliverance and praise. 57 They decked also the forefront of the temple
with crowns of gold, and with shields; and the gates and the chambers
they renewed, and hanged doors upon them. 58 Thus was there very great
gladness among the people, for that the reproach of the heathen was put
away. 59 Moreover Judas and his brethren with the whole congregation of
Israel ordained, that the days of the dedication of the altar should be
kept in their season from year to year by the space of eight days, from
the five and twentieth day of the month Casleu, with mirth and gladness.
60 At that time also they builded up the mount Sion with high walls and
strong towers round about, lest the Gentiles should come and tread it
down as they had done before. 61 And they set there a garrison to keep
it, and fortified Bethsura to preserve it; that the people might have a
defence against Idumea.

Lesson Acts 19:8-20
8 And he went into the synagogue, and spake
boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the
things concerning the kingdom of God. 9 But when divers were hardened,
and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he
departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the
school of one Tyrannus. 10 And this continued by the space of two years;
so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus,
both Jews and Greeks. 11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands
of Paul: 12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick
handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the
evil spirits went out of them. 13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews,
exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the
name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul
preacheth. 14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief
of the priests, which did so. 15 And the evil spirit answered and said,
Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? 16 And the man in whom
the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed
against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. 17
And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus;
and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.
18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.
19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books
together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of
them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. 20 So mightily grew
the word of God and prevailed.

Lesson Ruth 4:9-17
9 And Boaz said unto the elders, and unto all
the people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was
Elimelech's, and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's, of the hand of
Naomi. 10 Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I
purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his
inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his
brethren, and from the gate of his place: ye are witnesses this day. 11
And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are
witnesses. The Lord make the woman that is come into thine house like
Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: and do
thou worthily in Ephratah, and be famous in Bethlehem: 12 And let thy
house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bare unto Judah, of the
seed which the Lord shall give thee of this young woman. 13 So Boaz took
Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in unto her, the Lord gave
her conception, and she bare a son. 14 And the women said unto Naomi,
Blessed be the Lord, which hath not left thee this day without a
kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel. 15 And he shall be unto
thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy
daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven
sons, hath borne him. 16 And Naomi took the child, and laid it in her
bosom, and became nurse unto it. 17 And the women her neighbours gave it
a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi; and they called his name
Obed: he is the father of Jesse, the father of David.

Lesson Luke 11:14-28
14 And he was casting out a devil, and it was
dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake;
and the people wondered. 15 But some of them said, He casteth out devils
through Beelzebub the chief of the devils. 16 And others, tempting him,
sought of him a sign from heaven. 17 But he, knowing their thoughts,
said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to
desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth. 18 If Satan
also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye
say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub. 19 And if I by Beelzebub
cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall
they be your judges. 20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils,
no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you. 21 When a strong man armed
keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: 22 But when a stronger than
he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his
armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils. 23 He that is not
with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth. 24
When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry
places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my
house whence I came out. 25 And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and
garnished. 26 Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more
wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last
state of that man is worse than the first. 27 And it came to pass, as he
spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice,
and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps
which thou hast sucked. 28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they

Lesson Daniel 1:1-7, 17-21
1 In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim
king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and
besieged it. 2 And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand,
with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the
land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into
the treasure house of his god. 3 And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the
master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of
Israel, and of the king's seed, and of the princes; 4 Children in whom
was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and
cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability
in them to stand in the king's palace, and whom they might teach the
learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans. 5 And the king appointed them
a daily provision of the king's meat, and of the wine which he drank: so
nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand
before the king. 6 Now among these were of the children of Judah,
Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: 7 Unto whom the prince of the
eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar;
and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to
Azariah, of Abednego.
17 As for these four children, God gave them
knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had
understanding in all visions and dreams. 18 Now at the end of the days
that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the
eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar. 19 And the king communed
with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah,
Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king. 20 And in
all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king inquired of them,
he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers
that were in all his realm. 21 And Daniel continued even unto the first
year of king Cyrus.

Lesson Acts 19:21
21 After these things were ended, Paul purposed
in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to
Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome. 22 So
he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus
and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season. 23 And the same
time there arose no small stir about that way. 24 For a certain man
named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana,
brought no small gain unto the craftsmen; 25 Whom he called together
with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by
this craft we have our wealth. 26 Moreover ye see and hear, that not
alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath
persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods,
which are made with hands: 27 So that not only this our craft is in
danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great
goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be
destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth. 28 And when they
heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying,
Great is Diana of the Ephesians. 29 And the whole city was filled with
confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia,
Paul's companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the
theatre. 30 And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the
disciples suffered him not. 31 And certain of the chief of Asia, which
were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not
adventure himself into the theatre. 32 Some therefore cried one thing,
and some another: for the assembly was confused; and the more part knew
not wherefore they were come together. 33 And they drew Alexander out of
the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander beckoned with
the hand, and would have made his defence unto the people. 34 But when
they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two
hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians. 35 And when the
townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man
is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a
worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down
from Jupiter? 36 Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against,
ye ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly. 37 For ye have brought
hither these men, which are neither robbers of churches, nor yet
blasphemers of your goddess. 38 Wherefore if Demetrius, and the
craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is
open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another. 39 But if ye
inquire any thing concerning other matters, it shall be determined in a
lawful assembly. 40 For we are in danger to be called in question for
this day's uproar, there being no cause whereby we may give an account
of this concourse. 41 And when he had thus spoken, he dismissed the
assembly.

Lesson 1 Samuel 1:1-11
1 Now there was a certain man of
Ramathaimzophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of
Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an
Ephrathite: 2 And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and
the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah
had no children. 3 And this man went up out of his city yearly to
worship and to sacrifice unto the Lord of hosts in Shiloh. And the two
sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the Lord, were there. 4
And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his
wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions: 5 But unto Hannah
he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the Lord had shut up
her womb. 6 And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her
fret, because the Lord had shut up her womb. 7 And as he did so year by
year, when she went up to the house of the Lord, so she provoked her;
therefore she wept, and did not eat. 8 Then said Elkanah her husband to
her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy
heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons? 9 So Hannah rose
up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the
priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the Lord. 10 And she
was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the Lord, and wept sore. 11
And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look
on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget
thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I
will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and there shall no
razor come upon his head.

Lesson Luke 11:29-36
29 And when the people were gathered thick
together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign;
and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.
30 For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of
man be to this generation. 31 The queen of the south shall rise up in
the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she
came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon;
and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here. 32 The men of Nineve shall
rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for
they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than
Jonas is here. 33 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a
secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they
which come in may see the light. 34 The light of the body is the eye:
therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of
light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness. 35
Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness. 36
If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the
whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle
doth give thee light.

Lesson Daniel 2:1-6, 10-13
1 And in the second year of the reign of
Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams, wherewith his spirit was
troubled, and his sleep brake from him. 2 Then the king commanded to
call the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the
Chaldeans, for to shew the king his dreams. So they came and stood
before the king. 3 And the king said unto them, I have dreamed a dream,
and my spirit was troubled to know the dream. 4 Then spake the Chaldeans
to the king in Syriac, O king, live for ever: tell thy servants the
dream, and we will shew the interpretation. 5 The king answered and said
to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if ye will not make known
unto me the dream, with the interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in
pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill. 6 But if ye shew the
dream, and the interpretation thereof, ye shall receive of me gifts and
rewards and great honour: therefore shew me the dream, and the
interpretation thereof.
10 The Chaldeans answered before the king, and
said, There is not a man upon the earth that can shew the king's matter:
therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at
any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean. 11 And it is a rare thing that
the king requireth, and there is none other that can shew it before the
king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh. 12 For this
cause the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to destroy all
the wise men of Babylon. 13 And the decree went forth that the wise men
should be slain; and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain.

Lesson Acts 20:1-16
1 And after the uproar was ceased, Paul called
unto him the disciples, and embraced them, and departed for to go into
Macedonia. 2 And when he had gone over those parts, and had given them
much exhortation, he came into Greece, 3 And there abode three months.
And when the Jews laid wait for him, as he was about to sail into Syria,
he purposed to return through Macedonia. 4 And there accompanied him
into Asia Sopater of Berea; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and
Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timotheus; and of Asia, Tychicus and
Trophimus. 5 These going before tarried for us at Troas. 6 And we sailed
away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto
them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days. 7 And upon the
first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread,
Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued
his speech until midnight. 8 And there were many lights in the upper
chamber, where they were gathered together. 9 And there sat in a window
a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and
as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from
the third loft, and was taken up dead. 10 And Paul went down, and fell
on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is
in him. 11 When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread,
and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he
departed. 12 And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little
comforted. 13 And we went before to ship, and sailed unto Assos, there
intending to take in Paul: for so had he appointed, minding himself to
go afoot. 14 And when he met with us at Assos, we took him in, and came
to Mitylene. 15 And we sailed thence, and came the next day over against
Chios; and the next day we arrived at Samos, and tarried at Trogyllium;
and the next day we came to Miletus. 16 For Paul had determined to sail
by Ephesus, because he would not spend the time in Asia: for he hasted,
if it were possible for him, to be at Jerusalem the day of
Pentecost.
