Lesson Isaiah 12
1 And in that day thou shalt say, O Lord, I will
praise thee: though thou wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away,
and thou comfortedst me. 2 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust,
and not be afraid: for the Lord JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he
also is become my salvation. 3 Therefore with joy shall ye draw water
out of the wells of salvation. 4 And in that day shall ye say, Praise
the Lord, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make
mention that his name is exalted. 5 Sing unto the Lord; for he hath done
excellent things: this is known in all the earth. 6 Cry out and shout,
thou inhabitant of Zion: for great is the Holy One of Israel in the
midst of thee.

Lesson John 11:21-44
21 Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou
hadst been here, my brother had not died. 22 But I know, that even now,
whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee. 23 Jesus saith
unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. 24 Martha saith unto him, I know
that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. 25 Jesus
said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in
me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: 26 And whosoever liveth and
believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? 27 She saith unto
him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God,
which should come into the world. 28 And when she had so said, she went
her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is
come, and calleth for thee. 29 As soon as she heard that, she arose
quickly, and came unto him. 30 Now Jesus was not yet come into the town,
but was in that place where Martha met him. 31 The Jews then which were
with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she
rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the
grave to weep there. 32 Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw
him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst
been here, my brother had not died. 33 When Jesus therefore saw her
weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in
the spirit, and was troubled, 34 And said, Where have ye laid him? They
said unto him, Lord, come and see. 35 Jesus wept. 36 Then said the Jews,
Behold how he loved him! 37 And some of them said, Could not this man,
which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man
should not have died? 38 Jesus therefore again groaning in himself
cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it. 39 Jesus
said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead,
saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead
four days. 40 Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou
wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God? 41 Then they took
away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted
up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. 42
And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which
stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me. 43 And
when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come
forth. 44 And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with
graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith
unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

Lesson Jeremiah 32:36-42
36 And now therefore thus saith the Lord, the
God of Israel, concerning this city, whereof ye say, It shall be
delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, and by the
famine, and by the pestilence; 37 Behold, I will gather them out of all
countries, whither I have driven them in mine anger, and in my fury, and
in great wrath; and I will bring them again unto this place, and I will
cause them to dwell safely: 38 And they shall be my people, and I will
be their God: 39 And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they
may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after
them: 40 And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will
not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in
their hearts, that they shall not depart from me. 41 Yea, I will rejoice
over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly
with my whole heart and with my whole soul. 42 For thus saith the Lord;
Like as I have brought all this great evil upon this people, so will I
bring upon them all the good that I have promised them.

Lesson Romans 11:25
25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be
ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits;
that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the
Gentiles be come in. 26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is
written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away
ungodliness from Jacob: 27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I
shall take away their sins. 28 As concerning the gospel, they are
enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved
for the fathers' sakes. 29 For the gifts and calling of God are without
repentance. 30 For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have
now obtained mercy through their unbelief: 31 Even so have these also
now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy. 32
For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy
upon all. 33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge
of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding
out! 34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his
counsellor? 35 Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be
recompensed unto him again? 36 For of him, and through him, and to him,
are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.

Lesson Exodus 3:1-15
1 Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father
in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of
the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. 2 And the
angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst
of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and
the bush was not consumed. 3 And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and
see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. 4 And when the Lord saw
that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the
bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. 5 And he said,
Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place
whereon thou standest is holy ground. 6 Moreover he said, I am the God
of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of
Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God. 7 And
the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are
in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I
know their sorrows; 8 And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand
of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land
and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of
the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites,
and the Hivites, and the Jebusites. 9 Now therefore, behold, the cry of
the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the
oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them. 10 Come now therefore,
and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my
people the children of Israel out of Egypt. 11 And Moses said unto God,
Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth
the children of Israel out of Egypt? 12 And he said, Certainly I will be
with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee:
When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God
upon this mountain. 13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto
the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers
hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what
shall I say unto them? 14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and
he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent
me unto you. 15 And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say
unto the children of Israel, The Lord God of your fathers, the God of
Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you:
this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all
generations.

Lesson 1 Peter 5
1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who
am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a
partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: 2 Feed the flock of God
which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but
willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 3 Neither as being
lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. 4 And when
the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that
fadeth not away. 5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the
elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with
humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 6
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may
exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth
for you. 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a
roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9 Whom resist
stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are
accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. 10 But the God of
all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus,
after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish,
strengthen, settle you. 11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and
ever. Amen. 12 By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I
have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true
grace of God wherein ye stand. 13 The church that is at Babylon, elected
together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son. 14 Greet ye
one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all that are in
Christ Jesus. Amen.

Lesson Ezekiel 33:1-9
1 Again the word of the Lord came unto me,
saying, 2 Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto
them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take
a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman: 3 If when he
seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the
people; 4 Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh
not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be
upon his own head. 5 He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not
warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall
deliver his soul. 6 But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not
the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take
any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his
blood will I require at the watchman's hand. 7 So thou, O son of man, I
have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt
hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me. 8 When I say unto the
wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to
warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity;
but his blood will I require at thine hand. 9 Nevertheless, if thou warn
the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way,
he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.

Lesson Matthew 24:37
37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also
the coming of the Son of man be. 38 For as in the days that were before
the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in
marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39 And knew not
until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming
of the Son of man be. 40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall
be taken, and the other left. 41 Two women shall be grinding at the
mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 42 Watch therefore:
for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. 43 But know this, that if
the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come,
he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be
broken up. 44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye
think not the Son of man cometh. 45 Who then is a faithful and wise
servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them
meat in due season? 46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he
cometh shall find so doing. 47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make
him ruler over all his goods. 48 But and if that evil servant shall say
in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; 49 And shall begin to smite
his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; 50 The lord
of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in
an hour that he is not aware of, 51 And shall cut him asunder, and
appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and
gnashing of teeth.

8 And the word of the Lord came unto him,
saying, 9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and
dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain
thee.
17 And it came to pass after these things, that
the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his
sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him. 18 And she
said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art
thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son? 19
And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom,
and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his
own bed. 20 And he cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, hast
thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying
her son? 21 And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and
cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this
child's soul come into him again. 22 And the Lord heard the voice of
Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.
23 And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber
into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See,
thy son liveth. 24 And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that
thou art a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in thy mouth is
truth.

Lesson Luke 7:11-17
11 And it came to pass the day after, that he
went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him,
and much people. 12 Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city,
behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother,
and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. 13 And
when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep
not. 14 And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood
still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. 15 And he that
was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.
16 And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a
great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his
people. 17 And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judaea, and
throughout all the region round about.

Lesson 1 Kings 12:1-20
1 And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for all Israel
were come to Shechem to make him king. 2 And it came to pass, when
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was yet in Egypt, heard of it, (for he
was fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in
Egypt;) 3 That they sent and called him. And Jeroboam and all the
congregation of Israel came, and spake unto Rehoboam, saying, 4 Thy
father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous
service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter,
and we will serve thee. 5 And he said unto them, Depart yet for three
days, then come again to me. And the people departed. 6 And king
Rehoboam consulted with the old men, that stood before Solomon his
father while he yet lived, and said, How do ye advise that I may answer
this people? 7 And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a
servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them,
and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever. 8
But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and
consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, and which
stood before him: 9 And he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we
may answer this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke
which thy father did put upon us lighter? 10 And the young men that were
grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou speak unto
this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke
heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them,
My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins. 11 And now
whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your
yoke: my father hath chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you
with scorpions. 12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the
third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me again the third
day. 13 And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the old
men's counsel that they gave him; 14 And spake to them after the counsel
of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add
to your yoke: my father also chastised you with whips, but I will
chastise you with scorpions. 15 Wherefore the king hearkened not unto
the people; for the cause was from the Lord, that he might perform his
saying, which the Lord spake by Ahijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam the
son of Nebat. 16 So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto
them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in
David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O
Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their
tents. 17 But as for the children of Israel which dwelt in the cities of
Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them. 18 Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram,
who was over the tribute; and all Israel stoned him with stones, that he
died. Therefore king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot,
to flee to Jerusalem. 19 So Israel rebelled against the house of David
unto this day. 20 And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that
Jeroboam was come again, that they sent and called him unto the
congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none that
followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.

Lesson Acts 19:21
21 After these things were ended, Paul purposed
in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to
Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome. 22 So
he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus
and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season. 23 And the same
time there arose no small stir about that way. 24 For a certain man
named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana,
brought no small gain unto the craftsmen; 25 Whom he called together
with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by
this craft we have our wealth. 26 Moreover ye see and hear, that not
alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath
persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods,
which are made with hands: 27 So that not only this our craft is in
danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great
goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be
destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth. 28 And when they
heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying,
Great is Diana of the Ephesians. 29 And the whole city was filled with
confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia,
Paul's companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the
theatre. 30 And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the
disciples suffered him not. 31 And certain of the chief of Asia, which
were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not
adventure himself into the theatre. 32 Some therefore cried one thing,
and some another: for the assembly was confused; and the more part knew
not wherefore they were come together. 33 And they drew Alexander out of
the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander beckoned with
the hand, and would have made his defence unto the people. 34 But when
they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two
hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians. 35 And when the
townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man
is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a
worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down
from Jupiter? 36 Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against,
ye ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly. 37 For ye have brought
hither these men, which are neither robbers of churches, nor yet
blasphemers of your goddess. 38 Wherefore if Demetrius, and the
craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is
open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another. 39 But if ye
inquire any thing concerning other matters, it shall be determined in a
lawful assembly. 40 For we are in danger to be called in question for
this day's uproar, there being no cause whereby we may give an account
of this concourse. 41 And when he had thus spoken, he dismissed the
assembly.

Lesson 1 Kings 8:1-11
1 Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel,
and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the
children of Israel, unto king Solomon in Jerusalem, that they might
bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of the city of David,
which is Zion. 2 And all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto
king Solomon at the feast in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh
month. 3 And all the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the
ark. 4 And they brought up the ark of the Lord, and the tabernacle of
the congregation, and all the holy vessels that were in the tabernacle,
even those did the priests and the Levites bring up. 5 And king Solomon,
and all the congregation of Israel, that were assembled unto him, were
with him before the ark, sacrificing sheep and oxen, that could not be
told nor numbered for multitude. 6 And the priests brought in the ark of
the covenant of the Lord unto his place, into the oracle of the house,
to the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims. 7 For the
cherubims spread forth their two wings over the place of the ark, and
the cherubims covered the ark and the staves thereof above. 8 And they
drew out the staves, that the ends of the staves were seen out in the
holy place before the oracle, and they were not seen without: and there
they are unto this day. 9 There was nothing in the ark save the two
tables of stone, which Moses put there at Horeb, when the Lord made a
covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of
Egypt. 10 And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the
holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the Lord, 11 So that the
priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory
of the Lord had filled the house of the Lord.

Lesson 1 Thessalonians 1
1 Paul and Silvanus and Timotheus, unto the
church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord
Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the
Lord Jesus Christ. 2 We give thanks to God always for you all, making
mention of you in our prayers: 3 Remembering without ceasing your work
of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus
Christ, in the sight of God and our Father; 4 Knowing brethern beloved,
your election of God. 5 For our gospel came not unto you in word only,
but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye
know what manner of men we were among you for your sake. 6 And ye became
followers of us, and the Lord, having received the word in much
affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost: 7 So that ye were ensamples to
all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia. 8 For from you sounded out the
word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every
place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to
speak any thing. 9 For they themselves shew of us what manner of
entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to
serve the living and true God; 10 And to wait for his Son from heaven,
whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the
wrath to come.

(Wisdom of Sirach) 43:13-19
13 By his commandment he maketh the snow to fall
aplace, and sendeth swiftly the lightnings of his judgment. 14 Through
this the treasures are opened: and clouds fly forth as fowls. 15 By his
great power he maketh the clouds firm, and the hailstones are broken
small. 16 At his sight the mountains are shaken, and at his will the
south wind bloweth. 17 The noise of the thunder maketh the earth to
tremble: so doth the northern storm and the whirlwind: as birds flying
he scattereth the snow, and the falling down thereof is as the lighting
of grasshoppers: 18 The eye marvelleth at the beauty of the whiteness
thereof, and the heart is astonished at the raining of it. 19 The
hoarfrost also as salt he poureth on the earth, and being congealed, it
lieth on the top of sharp stakes.

Lesson Matthew 9:18-35
18 While he spake these things unto them,
behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My
daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she
shall live. 19 And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his
disciples. 20 And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of
blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:
21 For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall
be whole. 22 But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said,
Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the
woman was made whole from that hour. 23 And when Jesus came into the
ruler's house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise, 24
He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth.
And they laughed him to scorn. 25 But when the people were put forth, he
went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose. 26 And the fame
hereof went abroad into all that land. 27 And when Jesus departed
thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of
David, have mercy on us. 28 And when he was come into the house, the
blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am
able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. 29 Then touched he their
eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. 30 And their eyes
were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, See that no man
know it. 31 But they, when they were departed, spread abroad his fame in
all that country. 32 As they went out, behold, they brought to him a
dumb man possessed with a devil. 33 And when the devil was cast out, the
dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen
in Israel. 34 But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the
prince of the devils. 35 And Jesus went about all the cities and
villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the
kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the
people.

Lesson I Kings 8:12-21
12 Then spake Solomon, The Lord said that he
would dwell in the thick darkness. 13 I have surely built thee an house
to dwell in, a settled place for thee to abide in for ever. 14 And the
king turned his face about, and blessed all the congregation of Israel:
(and all the congregation of Israel stood;) 15 And he said, Blessed be
the Lord God of Israel, which spake with his mouth unto David my father,
and hath with his hand fulfilled it, saying, 16 Since the day that I
brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all
the tribes of Israel to build an house, that my name might be therein;
but I chose David to be over my people Israel. 17 And it was in the
heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the Lord God
of Israel. 18 And the Lord said unto David my father, Whereas it was in
thine heart to build an house unto my name, thou didst well that it was
in thine heart. 19 Nevertheless thou shalt not build the house; but thy
son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house
unto my name. 20 And the Lord hath performed his word that he spake, and
I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of
Israel, as the Lord promised, and have built an house for the name of
the Lord God of Israel. 21 And I have set there a place for the ark,
wherein is the covenant of the Lord, which he made with our fathers,
when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.

Lesson I Thessalonians 2:1-13
1 For yourselves, brethern, know our entrance in
unto you, that it was not in vain: 2 But even after that we had suffered
before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were
bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much
contention. 3 For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness,
nor in guile: 4 But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with
the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth
our hearts. 5 For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye
know, nor a cloak of covetousness; God is witness: 6 Nor of men sought
we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been
burdensome, as the apostles of Christ. 7 But we were gentle among you,
even as a nurse cherisheth her children: 8 So being affectionately
desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the
gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto
us. 9 For ye remember, brethern, our labour and travail: for labouring
night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we
preached unto you the gospel of God. 10 Ye are witnesses, and God also,
how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you
that believe: 11 As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged
every one of you, as father doth his children. 12 That ye would walk
worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory. 13 For
this cause also we thank God without ceasing, because, when ye received
the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of
men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh
also in you that believe.

Lesson Ecclesiasticus
(Wisdom of Sirach) 43:20
20 When the cold north wind bloweth, and the
water is congealed into ice, it abideth upon every gathering together of
water, and clotheth the water as with a breastplate. 21 It devoureth the
mountains, and burneth the wilderness, and consumeth the grass as fire.
22 A present remedy of all is a mist coming speedily, a dew coming after
heat refresheth. 23 By his counsel he appeaseth the deep, and planteth
islands therein. 24 They that sail on the sea tell of the danger
thereof; and when we hear it with our ears, we marvel thereat. 25 For
therein be strange and wondrous works, variety of all kinds of beasts
and whales created. 26 By him the end of them hath prosperous success,
and by his word all things consist. 27 We may speak much, and yet come
short: wherefore in sum, he is all. 28 How shall we be able to magnify
him? for he is great above all his works. 29 The Lord is terrible and
very great, and marvellous is his power. 30 When ye glorify the Lord,
exalt him as much as ye can; for even yet will he far exceed: and when
ye exalt him, put forth all your strength, and be not weary; for ye can
never go far enough. 31 Who hath seen him, that he might tell us? and
who can magnify him as he is? 32 There are yet hid greater things than
these be, for we have seen but a few of his works. 33 For the Lord hath
made all things; and to the godly hath he given wisdom.

Lesson Matthew 9:36. 10:15
36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved
with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered
abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then saith he unto his
disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; 38
Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth
labourers into his harvest.
1 And when he had called unto him his twelve
disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out,
and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. 2 Now the
names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called
Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his
brother; 3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican;
James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus; 4
Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him. 5 These
twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way
of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: 6 But
go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And as ye go,
preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. 8 Heal the sick,
cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have
received, freely give. 9 Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in
your purses, 10 Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither
shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat. 11 And
into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, inquire who in it is
worthy; and there abide till ye go thence. 12 And when ye come into an
house, salute it. 13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come
upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you. 14 And
whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out
of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. 15 Verily I say
unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha
in the day of judgment, than for that city.

Lesson I Kings 8:22-30
22 And Solomon stood before the altar of the
Lord in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth
his hands toward heaven: 23 And he said, Lord God of Israel, there is no
God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keepest
covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all
their heart: 24 Who hast kept with thy servant David my father that thou
promisedst him: thou spakest also with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it
with thine hand, as it is this day. 25 Therefore now, Lord God of
Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him,
saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne
of Israel; so that thy children take heed to their way, that they walk
before me as thou hast walked before me. 26 And now, O God of Israel,
let thy word, I pray thee, be verified, which thou spakest unto thy
servant David my father. 27 But will God indeed dwell on the earth?
behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much
less this house that I have builded? 28 Yet have thou respect unto the
prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O Lord my God, to
hearken unto the cry and to the prayer, which thy servant prayeth before
thee today: 29 That thine eyes may be open toward this house night and
day, even toward the place of which thou hast said, My name shall be
there: that thou mayest hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall
make toward this place. 30 And hearken thou to the supplication of thy
servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this
place: and hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place: and when thou
hearest, forgive.

Lesson I Thessalonians 2:17. 3:13
17 But we, brethern, being taken from you for a
short time in presence, not in heart, endeavoured the more abundantly to
see your face with great desire. 18 Wherefore we would have come unto
you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us. 19 For what is
our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence
of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming? 20 For ye are our glory and our
joy.
1 Wherefore when we could no longer forbear, we
thought it good to be left at Athens alone; 2 And sent Timotheus, our
brother, and minister of God, and our fellow labourer in the gospel of
Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith: 3
That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know
that we are appointed thereunto. 4 For verily, when we were with you, we
told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to
pass, and ye know. 5 For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I
sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted
you, and our labour be in vain. 6 But now when Timotheus came from you
unto us, and brought us good tidings of your faith and charity, and that
ye have good remembrance of us always, desiring greatly to see us, as we
also to see you: 7 Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you in
all our affliction and distress by your faith: 8 For now we live, if ye
stand fast in the Lord. 9 For what thanks can we render to God again for
you, for all the joy wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God; 10
Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might
perfect that which is lacking in your faith? 11 Now God himself and our
Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you. 12 And the
Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and
toward all men, even as we do toward you: 13 To the end he may stablish
your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the
coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.

Lesson Ecclesiasticus
(Wisdom of Sirach) 44:1-15
1 Let us now praise famous men, and our fathers
that begat us. 2 The Lord hath wrought great glory by them through his
great power from the beginning. 3 Such as did bear rule in their
kingdoms, men renowned for their power, giving counsel by their
understanding, and declaring prophecies: 4 Leaders of the people by
their counsels, and by their knowledge of learning meet for the people,
wise and eloquent are their instructions: 5 Such as found out musical
tunes, and recited verses in writing: 6 Rich men furnished with ability,
living peaceably in their habitations: 7 All these were honoured in
their generations, and were the glory of their times. 8 There be of
them, that have left a name behind them, that their praises might be
reported. 9 And some there be, which have no memorial; who are perished,
as though they had never been; and are become as though they had never
been born; and their children after them. 10 But these were merciful
men, whose righteousness hath not been forgotten. 11 With their seed
shall continually remain a good inheritance, and their children are
within the covenant. 12 Their seed standeth fast, and their children for
their sakes. 13 Their seed shall remain for ever, and their glory shall
not be blotted out. 14 Their bodies are buried in peace; but their name
liveth for evermore. 15 The people will tell of their wisdom, and the
congregation will shew forth their praise.

Lesson Matthew 10:16-31
16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the
midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as
doves. 17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the
councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues; 18 And ye shall
be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony
against them and the Gentiles. 19 But when they deliver you up, take no
thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that
same hour what ye shall speak. 20 For it is not ye that speak, but the
Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you. 21 And the brother shall
deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the
children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put
to death. 22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he
that endureth to the end shall be saved. 23 But when they persecute you
in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall
not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come. 24
The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. 25
It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant
as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how
much more shall they call them of his household? 26 Fear them not
therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and
hid, that shall not be known. 27 What I tell you in darkness, that speak
ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the
housetops. 28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to
kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul
and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one
of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. 30 But the
very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fear ye not therefore, ye
are of more value than many sparrows.

Lesson I Kings 8:54-63
54 And it was so, that when Solomon had made an
end of praying all this prayer and supplication unto the Lord, he arose
from before the altar of the Lord, from kneeling on his knees with his
hands spread up to heaven. 55 And he stood, and blessed all the
congregation of Israel with a loud voice, saying, 56 Blessed be the
Lord, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that
he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise,
which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant. 57 The Lord our God
be with us, as he was with our fathers: let him not leave us, nor
forsake us: 58 That he may incline our hearts unto him, to walk in all
his ways, and to keep his commandments, and his statutes, and his
judgments, which he commanded our fathers. 59 And let these my words,
wherewith I have made supplication before the Lord, be nigh unto the
Lord our God day and night, that he maintain the cause of his servant,
and the cause of his people Israel at all times, as the matter shall
require: 60 That all the people of the earth may know that the Lord is
God, and that there is none else. 61 Let your heart therefore be perfect
with the Lord our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his
commandments, as at this day. 62 And the king, and all Israel with him,
offered sacrifice before the Lord. 63 And Solomon offered a sacrifice of
peace offerings, which he offered unto the Lord, two and twenty thousand
oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the
children of Israel dedicated the house of the Lord.

1 Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and
exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye
ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more. 2 For
ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus. 3 For this is
the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from
fornication: 4 That every one of you should know how to possess his
vessel in sanctification and honour; 5 Not in the lust of concupiscence,
even as the Gentiles which know not God: 6 That no man go beyond and
defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger
of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified. 7 For God
hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. 8 He therefore
that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us
his holy Spirit. 9 But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I
write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.
10 And indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all
Macedonia: but we beseech you, brethren, that ye increase more and more;
11 And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to
work with your own hands, as we commanded you; 12 That ye may walk
honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of
nothing.

Lesson Job 1:1-12
1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name
was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God,
and eschewed evil. 2 And there were born unto him seven sons and three
daughters. 3 His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three
thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she
asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of
all the men of the east. 4 And his sons went and feasted in their
houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters
to eat and to drink with them. 5 And it was so, when the days of their
feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up
early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the
number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned,
and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually. 6 Now there
was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the
Lord, and Satan came also among them. 7 And the Lord said unto Satan,
Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going
to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. 8 And the
Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is
none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that
feareth God, and escheweth evil? 9 Then Satan answered the Lord, and
said, Doth Job fear God for nought? 10 Hast not thou made an hedge about
him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou
hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in
the land. 11 But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath,
and he will curse thee to thy face. 12 And the Lord said unto Satan,
Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not
forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord.

Lesson Matthew 10:32. 11:1
32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before
men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. 33 But
whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my
Father which is in heaven. 34 Think not that I am come to send peace on
earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 35 For I am come to set a
man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother,
and the daughter in law against her mother in law. 36 And a man's foes
shall be they of his own household. 37 He that loveth father or mother
more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter
more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And he that taketh not his cross,
and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. 39 He that findeth his life
shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. 40
He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth
him that sent me. 41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a
prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a
righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous
man's reward. 42 And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these
little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I
say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and
to preach in their cities.

Lesson I Kings 9:1-9
1 And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished
the building of the house of the Lord, and the king's house, and all
Solomon's desire which he was pleased to do, 2 That the Lord appeared to
Solomon the second time, as he had appeared unto him at Gibeon. 3 And
the Lord said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication,
that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house, which thou
hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart
shall be there perpetually. 4 And if thou wilt walk before me, as David
thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do
according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes
and my judgments: 5 Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon
Israel for ever, as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall
not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel. 6 But if ye shall at all
turn from following me, ye or your children, and will not keep my
commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and
serve other gods, and worship them: 7 Then will I cut off Israel out of
the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed
for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb
and a byword among all people: 8 And at this house, which is high, every
one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss; and they
shall say, Why hath the Lord done thus unto this land, and to this
house? 9 And they shall answer, Because they forsook the Lord their God,
who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have taken
hold upon other gods, and have worshipped them, and served them:
therefore hath the Lord brought upon them all this evil.

brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as

15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are

which are asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with
a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and

Lesson Job 1:13
13 And there was a day when his sons and his
daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house:
14 And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing,
and the asses feeding beside them: 15 And the Sabeans fell upon them,
and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of
the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. 16 While he was yet
speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen
from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and
consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. 17 While he was
yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out
three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea,
and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped
alone to tell thee. 18 While he was yet speaking, there came also
another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking
wine in their eldest brother's house: 19 And, behold, there came a great
wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and
it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped
alone to tell thee. 20 Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved
his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, 21 And said,
Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither:

Lord. 22 In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.

Lesson Matthew 11:2-19
2 Now when John had heard in the prison the
works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, 3 And said unto him, Art
thou he that should come, or do we look for another? 4 Jesus answered
and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear
and see: 5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers
are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor
have the gospel preached to them. 6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall
not be offended in me. 7 And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto
the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to
see? A reed shaken with the wind? 8 But what went ye out for to see? A
man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in
kings' houses. 9 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say
unto you, and more than a prophet. 10 For this is he, of whom it is
written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall
prepare thy way before thee. 11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that
are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist:
notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater
than he. 12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom
of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. 13 For
all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. 14 And if ye will
receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come. 15 He that hath ears
to hear, let him hear. 16 But whereunto shall I liken this generation?
It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their
fellows, 17 And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced;
we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented. 18 For John came
neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil. 19 The Son
of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous,
and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is
justified of her children.

Lesson I Kings 11:26-31, 34-37
26 And Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephrathite
of Zereda, Solomon's servant, whose mother's name was Zeruah, a widow
woman, even he lifted up his hand against the king. 27 And this was the
cause that he lifted up his hand against the king: Solomon built Millo,
and repaired the breaches of the city of David his father. 28 And the
man Jeroboam was a mighty man of valour: and Solomon seeing the young
man that he was industrious, he made him ruler over all the charge of
the house of Joseph. 29 And it came to pass at that time when Jeroboam
went out of Jerusalem, that the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite found him
in the way; and he had clad himself with a new garment; and they two
were alone in the field: 30 And Ahijah caught the new garment that was
on him, and rent it in twelve pieces: 31 And he said to Jeroboam, Take
thee ten pieces: for thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel, Behold, I
will rend the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and will give ten
tribes to thee:
34 Howbeit I will not take the whole kingdom out
of his hand: but I will make him prince all the days of his life for
David my servant's sake, whom I chose, because he kept my commandments
and my statutes: 35 But I will take the kingdom out of his son's hand,
and will give it unto thee, even ten tribes. 36 And unto his son will I
give one tribe, that David my servant may have a light alway before me
in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen me to put my name there. 37
And I will take thee, and thou shalt reign according to all that thy
soul desireth, and shalt be king over Israel.

Lesson I Thessalonians 5:1-11
1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye
have no need that I write unto you. 2 For yourselves know perfectly that
the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 3 For when they
shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them,
as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. 4 But ye,
brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a
thief. 5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day:
we are not of the night, nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep,
as do others; but let us watch and be sober. 7 For they that sleep sleep
in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. 8 But
let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of
faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. 9 For God hath
not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus
Christ, 10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should
live together with him. 11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and
edify one another, even as also ye do.

Lesson Job 2
1 Again there was a day when the sons of God
came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among
them to present himself before the Lord. 2 And the Lord said unto Satan,
From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the Lord, and said, From
going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. 3 And
the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that
there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one
that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his
integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without
cause. 4 And Satan answered the Lord, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all
that a man hath will he give for his life. 5 But put forth thine hand
now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy
face. 6 And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but
save his life. 7 So went Satan forth from the presence of the Lord, and
smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown. 8
And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down
among the ashes. 9 Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain
thine integrity? curse God, and die. 10 But he said unto her, Thou
speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive
good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did
not Job sin with his lips. 11 Now when Job's three friends heard of all
this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his own
place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the
Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn
with him and to comfort him. 12 And when they lifted up their eyes afar
off, and knew him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they
rent every one his mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward
heaven. 13 So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and
seven nights, and none spake a word unto him: for they saw that his
grief was very great.

Lesson Matthew 11:20
20 Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein
most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not: 21 Woe
unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works,
which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have
repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22 But I say unto you, It
shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than
for you. 23 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be
brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in
thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. 24
But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of
Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee. 25 At that time Jesus
answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast
revealed them unto babes. 26 Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in
thy sight. 27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man
knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father,
save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. 28 Come unto
me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in
heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy,
and my burden is light.
